Hi, I'm planning on seeing a lot more of Germany than I normally do (Autobahns...)
I'll be leaving Brussels on the morning of the 10th and heading into Germany. I have no real plan other than-
I want to ride some scenic routes, and the odd city centre (Berlin springs to mind) generally just chill out and enjoy the ride. I'll do a bit of touristy stuff as and when the need arises and that will include taking in some old Soviet sites that are dotted around the country!
I'm planning on staying in Pensions/cheapish hotels. There won't be any camping getting done by me.....

The average day on the bike will be 200/250 relaxing miles then find somewhere to stay for the night. Evenings will be the traditional & food followed by some people watching ;-)
I'm too old for partying nowadays!

This is a solo run for me so I'd love some company if anyone fancies joining me, otherwise recommendation of good roads, places to stay and things to see/do are also very welcome.

Thanks for reading,

JC

neil W, many thanks for your suggestions.

Pablo1, I've had some suggestions from people on the Hubb forum, I was really going to play it be ear depending on the weather etc. Do you have anything in mind you would want to either see/do or avoid?

my experience of germany to date is pretty much bavaria/black forrest, quite open minded really but also a bit anal in that i quite enjoy the planning and researching best roads and programming it in to the sat nav:nenau

Oh J.C. you will have a grand time, forget the GPS and treat yourself to some Michelin maps, plot a route that suits your purposes, try and use the roads with a green border (tourist route) the 500 springs to mind, it runs south through some great scenery, Stopped a couple of times in Immenstaad on Lake Konstanz, Interesting place, the German zeppelins were built nearby just over the Swiss border, the allied forces knew this but decided bombing was probably a bad idea,;) airships still circulate the lake today.

Have fun mate.
John.

Paintman, good to hear from ya and thanks for the advice, Michelin maps on the way...;-)

Pablo1, I've downloaded all the .gdb files uploaded from Wapping of this parish-
http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=244746
I think they cover a fair chunk of the West side of Germany and would take a fair few days to cover. please have a look at those and let me know what you think?

Hi JC, I think you should decide where you want to go and see then we could look at routes.
I only might tag along not a sure thing at this point.:hide

Pablo1, There are a load of things I want to see in germany, but I don't have to see them right away as I'm going to be on the road for 3 months, I can go see anything I may have missed on my way back home at the end of the trip.
Having some company is more important to me than getting to see everything at that stage of the trip.
I don't really plan things that far in advance, I'm always willing to avoid bad weather and given what they have just been through might be a good idea!
If you want to come along and have a route planned in advance then I'm cool with that, it's just not something I generally do for myself.

The Auto und Technik Museum in Sinsheim is awesome if you like planes, trains and automobiles :thumby: It's quite close to Heidelberg too, which is a great place to spend the night.
