Germany potential new area to visit

I might ride through Wangerland again.

If ypu want to split the route Emden is a nice place to stay and the coastal route along to Bremerhaven/ Cuxhaven is a relaxing alternative to Autobahns
That's doable in a day 224 miles

I need to start planning this trip.
Am I right in saying the German school summer holidays vary from region to region ?
Cheers Doc

Yes

https://publicholidays.de/school-holidays/ has the different dates for the regions up to summer 2027

some places have longer Xmas hols and shorter summer ones. Some areas the schools are back in early Aug like Hesse whilst Bad Wurttemberg is 11 Sep 2026. The latter probably explains why hotel prices in Alsace across the Rhine remain highish in early September.

Then up to here.

Thinking about only booking for our first few nights then deciding on where to stay and go and for how long.

the island of Usedom is nice, the countryside on the baltic coast on a bike can be lively with sand getting blown onto the road which is lethal slippery...

in schleswig holstein there's loads of good stuff and no people...

Then moving onto one of @Wapping's recent suggestions for an area to visit for three nights.

After that up to here.

So we can visit the island of Rugen

@Loiq also mentioned a place to visit Usedom for which we might visit which is close to Poland so might nip there just to say we have been. 😀

kaiser bad bansin was nice
Hotel Zur Post
and one other can't recall it name Ahlebeck spa?

there's a pier in Bansin long walk along the sea front nice food and good for people watching in the summer it's hot south of france hot...

they've also opened the border crossing now so getting into Poland is much simpler before they crossing was for pedestrians only and you had come more inland to cross...

anyway the kaiser loved nothing more than sitting on the beach and it was the german nobility that brought the whole sea side culture to the UK... which is funny cos the UK is an island.... and another reason to celebrate cos what would the UK be without all the German cultural influences

no christmas trees, inside toilets or bacon for a start...

Toured there in 2015 after crossing from Newcastle to Ijmuiden. If you take the road north from Ijmuiden you cross the sea defences on the Ijsselmeer and follow the coast. The area is pretty flat as you would expect right along the whole coast to Rugen.

I stopped to visit the U-boat memorial at Laboe. My sister was married to a German at the time. His grandfather (Wilhelm Manekeller) is commemorated there as one of the crew of U68 which was sunk in the Atlantic on 10 April 1944. There is also a 1942 German submarine U995 sitting on a beach nearby that you can visit and get inside.

Peenemunde and it's V2 rocket museum is in the area you intend to visit. There's also a Russian Juliet class submarine U461at the local Maritim museum in Usedom that you can go aboard.

Deutsches Panzermuseum in Munster is mid way between Hamburg and Hanover. Bergen Belsen museum and camp are also in that area.
