Gert’s Funeral

Thank you

I am sorry these 2 words can’t express the greatest thanks I have for you all.

The turn out for Gert was truly moving.

Thank you for the greatest effort under the less than pleasant weather conditions.

Thank you for the distances you travelled from every corner of the uk and beyond.

Thank you for the warm atmosphere you created back at Anettes.

Thank you to those that who were not with us for the toast, but still took the time to join the moment.

Me too. I was deeply touched. I hope many of you will respond to my reply earlier in the thread about the upload of photo's and stories of Gert.

Warmest regards, hope that we'll meet again.
Douwe

Hi Dowe, it's a great idea and I know how to upload the pics. I'll post a couple shortly.

How do you pass a couple of stories to you? There's no obvious facility on your link :beerjug:

Ronno

That is an excellent question Ronno, and I must admit that I had not solved that until a few seconds ago since I am a bit reluctant to put my email address on a list like this. Not because of all of you, but because of those emailaddress spiders that find their way in everthing we type. Therefore I created a temporary email address for you all to use being [email protected]. For those of you who would like to have my email address as well, use your imagination. My last name is "van Terwisga" My first name is beneath this text
:bounce1

You can also use the types of bikes I've got as the first part of the address. I own a (Moto Guzzi) Breva 1100 and a (Moto Guzzi) California 2. I hope I will not be banned from this forum now....... :)

I like to think Gert bought the 1200 sport to do the tour through Europe with we had planned for the year we both would become 50 years old.....

Do you think we could get that photo somehow?

Thanks,
Douwe

You could get a copy of the photo by contacting Aberdeen Journals, no idea what they would charge. Article was in Aberdeen Press & Journal, ~Thursday 21st.

I can send you a copy of the scan I posted, which as you can see is the whole article. PM me with a suitable e-amil address if you wish. :thumb

Bhud, I couldn't have said this any better myself, I am just sorry it has taken me so long to get around to it.

I was so deeply moved by seeing you all there on the day. I am sure it also comforted Stephanie and Caroline a great deal to see the side of Gert's life that they had not experienced up close before.

So words fail me, I simply cannot express how much it meant to me to have your support on a day like this.

I know Gert will live on in all our memories and therefore, he is not gone.

Ride on and keep strong. Stay safe.

Hi Anette, nice to see you in here.

I hope you get some small comfort from reading the genuine expressions of affection, friendship and respect that folk had for Gert.

He'll be sorely missed by many.

Cheers
Ronno

Good to hear from you 'Mrs Nak':D

Later at the house Anette showed me a book that Gert had created as a record of their travels in Namibia, full of amazing photography, absolutely superb. He was also part way through creating a new book to record the Calum's Road ride. I think that Anette may be talking to the other riders with a view to finishing the book as a memorial to Gert. If she feels that she is able to do this I for one would buy a copy.

I just managed to catch up with my friend who runs a printing business and explained all about Gert's sad loss, Calum's Road trip and the mention of a book to be completed. He already supports African Charity work and has offered his services to help complete the book. He said he could provide 10-12 copies free of charge for Gert's immediate family and for those that took part in the actual trip. All additional copies would be at cost so that it could be sold as a memorial/fundraiser. There would be no minimum run amount, so if it was just the free copies then that would be fine, but I am sure many others would be interested.

I did not know Gert or his family so would be happy to pass on my friends details to anybody that feels they could see if this was something Annette would like to follow up, and if so, someone who could help organise the completion of the book.

Iain

Thanks Iain there is a fair amount of work to be done on the book, but will certainly keep in touch could be a plan :thumb.
