Are you sure and I mean 100% sure; I am not aware that the design has changed in which case there are 40 per wheel . The grub screw is in the middle of the tightening nut , buried in mud.
There are two in the photo ; one arrowed and one in the other spoke nut:![]()
They look like the end of a spoke , but they are not .
(If you do have them , then your tightening is not done correctly because they butt against the end of the spoke after light tightening : or maybe yours never did cos in theory you cannot tighten without backing off these grub screws . )
Having had my wheel 'sorted' by the dealer on Friday I thought I'd stick it on the wheel balancer to see how 'true' it is.
5-6mm side movement and about 2mm up and down
Anybody know what tolerance BMW are quoting for their wheels please?

Without consideration fir BMW Afaik 5-6mm side movement is an mot failure;
5.2.2 Road wheel condition
Check the roadwheels fitted to the motorcycle and any sidecar.
Spare wheels aren't included in the inspection, but you should tell the presenter if you notice a defect.
The maximum lateral rim distortion (run out or buckling) limits are:
4mm for steel rims
2mm for aluminium alloy rims (cast or fabricated)
The maximum eccentricity is 3mm for all types of rim.
Measurements should be taken from a machined surface in the case of cast aluminium alloy rims.

As said earlier, BMW do not have the jigs to sort a very untrue wheel ; a specialist such as Woody’s Wheels can do it . If under warranty ; you need a new wheel ( how much are they £800-£1000?)

Thanks for that. I'd got 4mm in my head from somewhere, Had a similar issue on my TC. Swapped to cast wheels and it was like riding a different bike. I said then I wouldn't get another BMW with spoked wheels![]()
Checked mine at the weekend and guess what, 3 loose spokes rear wheel.
Dealer says there is a problem with them working loose, up to 5 and they will tighten but over that they will change the wheel......

Question
If several spokes are loose surly the wheel will not run true and become somewhat buckled ?
I.E spokes are loose because the wheel is sightly buckled as what used to happen to my pushbike when i was a kid
My recollection of trying to un buckle a push bike wheel was that it was pretty much impossible without specialist tools.
If the spokes are loose on a GS then my opinion is that just re tightening them will not solve the issue just fuck the wheel some more
Posted this on another thread
After reading this thread last night I checked the spokes on my 4 week old Rallye wheels. Front wheel was fine. Rear wheel I found 4 loose spokes (as in rattled around when you grabbed them between your fingers) and many more with a dull thud when tapping with a screwdriver. The bike has 1100 miles and just recently serviced by Coopers in Sunderland. Several irate phone calls later and they are going to order a new rear rear wheel. I was told on the phone that if the wheel had just 1 spoke loose they would just tighten but since it has at least 4 they will replace.
I have since spoken to the service department who checked rear wheel availability and they confirmed that Germany had no wheels available. They also told me that BMW would not give me a courtesy bike while my bike was off the road, we shall see about that !
Anyway I will keep everyone posted.
