Getting a key cut ?

Can I get a replacement ignition key cut anywhere or do I have to go to a dealer.

I've lost mine and all I have is the stubby one without the black plastic bit.

I'm not sure what BMW do but I recently had to get a replacement key cut for a Triumph. I could not find a key-cutter locally who held blnaks for motorcycle keys. In the end I bought the blank from Triumph (£8) and paid the local man to cut it for me.

Let me know how you get on as I must get some more spares cut before I start losing the keys to my GS!

Shouldn't be a problem - my last dealer told me that they were the same key/lock system used in the BMW 3 series cars...

Yeh no problem I had one done at the local key cutter in 5 mins. From stock.
