Hello

I've just bought a new laptop. My trusty old one is getting too old, too full and too slow...

I know this is a stupid question, so feel free to laugh at me.

I can't find the disk I got with my Garmin Zumo 550. (I haven't looked in the loft yet, and I'm hoping to avoid that if at all possible.) In fact, I can't ever remember installing the software when I got the 550, having previously had a Quest. Would that have been possible, even?

Is it essential to get the garmin software onto my new laptop? I need the maps, and for the computer to recognise what I'm plugging in.

Any suggestions, please?

You will need to load the Mapsouce base map, which comes on the disc.... which you have lost :D

Being a generous soul, you may borrow mine..... if you can't find yours.

Bite the bullet and download Basecamp. It won't be long before its the only option.

Mapsource will only install if there's already mapping on your PC. Though there is a way around this that I've used on a few occasions.

If you have a mapping subscription then download from your myGarmin account, selecting to install to GPS and PC (or just PC) from the Install Options screen (button bottom left on screen 4 or 5 of the install process ISTR) will install the mapping and, apparently, Basecamp if not already on the system.

Basecamp still can't hold a candle to Mapsource but it is catching up,
