Too many folk are scared to stand out from the crowd. Accordingly they strike out at those who aren't as they are reminded of their fear.

I suspect that very often those same people are a part of the "all the gear no idea" crowd and think that motorcycling is all about a two or three hour run on a sunny summers day. They will spend hours with sandpaper roughing up the edges of their tyres to try and hide the chicken strips.:D

There may be a bit of jealousy involved as well as they perceive the BMW brand to be expensive and beyond their means:nenau

you can understand why people think BMW are for the pipe and slipper boys, so many owners are either retired or wealthy.unfortunately the bikes are lumped into the car reputation too( lovely car, you should try learning to drive it). my son is a trainee tech. in the local suzuki dealers and i always get a bit of stick when i visit, but usually just good natured banter.do you ever notice when overtaking another bike, it's usually a rice rocket:thumb

I've ear plugs and cannot hear the comments when riding :augie

I can see where some of them are coming from having had sportsbikes, just wait a few years and they'll give up riding or get a GS too- eventually:thumb2

i have had blades, zxr's, rd's, a lot of other hondas but due to my life style i needed a bike i could fix in a field and tick all the boxes fun tour brain out the gs fits all of the above from a to b on normal a roads just as fast as the blade on bumpy a, b roads faster people have a wonderful trait in this country they follow fashion the latest cbrzxrr1gsxr is a great bike and dressed in your power ranger suit (got one of them as well) you are rossi toseland stoner all you have to do is read the latest orgi in bike and it explains all. people do not like change :flush

it is a sad thing but you will find the there are some people who will never accept a different bike -------800, 850,1100, 1150, 1200 etc everyone has their opinion :rob

and thats just on this site :beerjug:

however there are also people around here who are more than willing to help, and are very knowledgeable on everything GS :thumb :thumb2 :beerjug:

just get out there and enjoy the bike and sod the knockers............

Same with Ducati ownership.
Just the other day I was quietly sitting at the roadside waiting for the recovery truck when some jap owning biker called my Duke an overpriced unreliable pile of shite.
Some people..................

Brits are wingers, moaners and generally a sarcastic lot. I did a apprenticeship in the 70's and you can't beleive the crap I listened to from the older craftsmen during tea break and lunch. And that's not to mention the words they had for my Honda of the time.

We critizise anyone that achieves greatness and downplay their hardwork.. take Beckham as an example. Its a national sport.

So the GS is one of the top sellers in the UK and its different.... and its German.... a rescipe to become a target.

Enjoy being a little different, they are tossers and we are Tossers.

please see attached road test why the bike has this 'image' problem

Instructor boy.. If you want to post something constructive by all means do so.. but spamming the hitler vid isn't.. so please dont.

Show them the light

:mcgun Get a few of your jap riding mates and take em on a tour of the local country lanes - it soon shuts them up when they see what a GS can do round the twisties and suddenly everyone wants to have a ride! especially when its the 1100 - don't know much about these new 1200s as they always seem to be breaking down:D:nenau.

Been there and done that...:thumb everyone has the choice to ride what they like, can't get to grips why some need to come on here and deride our choice:confused:

Its like someone you've invited into your lounge grumbling about the decor

its when you pass the sportsbikes under braking into the bends and outtorque them on the exit of a bend it changes from what you doing with that to where do I get one of them. I don't think I've ever came across a road rider who could "properly" use a litre sportsbike.

Hi all not posted for a wile but just wondered why some people have such a negative attitude about BMW GS. Been riding bikes for about 30 years all jap bikes but pick up a 1200GSA in two weeks and getting pisst off with some peoples comments. The latest one was today. I took one of my bikes for a MOT and wile I was waiting went in a bike shop called Len Manchester motorcycles in Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire, while looking at the new R1 the man working there asked what bike I have I told him I’ve got a GSXR1000 and KTM 525 and getting a GSA and his response to the GSA was in a sarcastic manner o’never mind are you going to have them stupid side boxes on it . Need us to say I went else where to spend my money, is this something I have to get use to or am I the only person who bumps into these tw*ts trying to put me off the bike before I even get it.

id complain to the manager in front of all his customers, and vote with my feet,i got it once, i asked how much a bike was and got told,"u couldnt afford it",i was in my overalls, and v dirty after work
saw manager and showed him the CASH for the bike i "couldnt" afford wich was in my pocket
got an apology in front of the customers,by the arsehole who said it and a 100 pound discount,
told him to feck off and bought elsewhere anyway:thumb2
if the took the p#ss outa what i bought theyd be gettin embarressed to say the least
dysons m/c,s in selby, now defunct

I don’t think I could complain to the manager in front of all his customers, I’ve never seen any customers in there.

Sadly there is way too much hairy bollocks and hand-bags associated with bikes. I take the KTM to the local haunt and I get the nod, you know, the real cool nod. Can't spend longer than an hour on it without rupturing my spleen, but I get the nod.

I turn up the next day on the GS and I'm a leper.

Even with some of my mates from work who like bikes. I just don't see how they can't see outside of their box.

2 Wheels Good 4 Wheels Bad...

2 Wheels Good 4 Wheels bad!...

as bike riders we should all rally against the common enemy... not bicker amougst ourselves.

It's not what youve got but how you use it

It doesn't matter what you ride as long as you enjoy it.:augie

Iv'e never any complaints I'm always satisfied

and if others arn't able to understand that simple truth we should.. Rip their heads off and shi* down there necks :handbag

Finally what's wrong with a pipe & slippers.... surely it depends what is in the pipe :cool & who is doing the slippering :ymca

wont be long until the gs is compulsory over here, the roads are getting so bad:thedummy rode the rod over roads today that the gs just glides over. that did my back the world of good:mad: do get the nod of the head while riding the rod with a full face lid but hardly any with open face, even less with the gs. who cares??:D:D i'm having fun. perhaps it should remain fairly secret how good these things are

Knockers

Most of these pratts have been brain washed by Motor Cycle News, all pictures of road testers going aroun d bends at thirty miles an hour with their
knees stuck out all coloured leathers and matching hand bags. Most of them never go anywhere anyway. I got my 1100rt mot'd at a Suzuki dealers once
felt like gullivers travels every thing seemed so small, one of the staf said "how do your ride that thing", I said Iv'e riodden this scotland in a day, "I wouldent drive it down the shops" was the reply. Just ignorance of jealousy so just ignore it is only ignorence on their part.

Same with Ducati ownership.
Just the other day I was quietly sitting at the roadside waiting for the recovery truck when some jap owning biker called my Duke an overpriced unreliable pile of shite.
Some people..................

I also have the pleasure of owning a Duke a 93 888 Strada for 5 years done 16000 miles on it and its never let me down on the road, all ive replaced is a sprag clutch / main clutch and rectifier recently.
BMW 1100s Boxercup 11000 miles in 3 years no problems at all a GS1200 ADV has now joined the flock and have only done 3000 miles so far so isnt high enough to comment on.
What I will say is both Ducati/BMW owners seem to be far more relaxed about other bikes with fewer hang ups about what they ride and most seem to end up on a beemer not because there expensive or that there percieved to be an old mans bike, but because they are an outstanding every day bike that does everything really well.
And this is the problem with other bikers they just too blinkered and jealous that an oldmans bike can out perform their crutch rockets on everyday roads.
Last month the GS/GS ADV together was the top selling bike and I think this is down to bikes like the 1200s the new 4cyl bikes and the 800 twins bringing in new bikers to the brand.
Ive always purchased bikes I like to look at and give me riding enjoyment not what other people praise/slag off when it suits them.
Buy a bike that brings a smile to your ride and not the latest fashion statement, thats why UJMs lose there value so quickly there obsolete before there out of the crate.
