I also have the pleasure of owning a Duke a 93 888 Strada for 5 years done 16000 miles on it and its never let me down on the road, all ive replaced is a sprag clutch / main clutch and rectifier recently.
BMW 1100s Boxercup 11000 miles in 3 years no problems at all a GS1200 ADV has now joined the flock and have only done 3000 miles so far so isnt high enough to comment on.
What I will say is both Ducati/BMW owners seem to be far more relaxed about other bikes with fewer hang ups about what they ride and most seem to end up on a beemer not because there expensive or that there percieved to be an old mans bike, but because they are an outstanding every day bike that does everything really well.
And this is the problem with other bikers they just too blinkered and jealous that an oldmans bike can out perform their crutch rockets on everyday roads.
Last month the GS/GS ADV together was the top selling bike and I think this is down to bikes like the 1200s the new 4cyl bikes and the 800 twins bringing in new bikers to the brand.
Ive always purchased bikes I like to look at and give me riding enjoyment not what other people praise/slag off when it suits them.
Buy a bike that brings a smile to your ride and not the latest fashion statement, thats why UJMs lose there value so quickly there obsolete before there out of the crate.

Well put indeed :thumb

Brits are wingers, moaners and generally a sarcastic lot. I did a apprenticeship in the 70's and you can't beleive the crap I listened to from the older craftsmen during tea break and lunch. And that's not to mention the words they had for my Honda of the time.

Same here in Ireland. Good thread btw:thumb2 Just play a game with them simon. Some love your bike but hate you for being able to afford it. Some love it and say it openly. Some hate it and are still good characters (my favourite traffic light enounters:bounce1). Some hate it and say nasty things. Just ride well and have fun. Concentrate on the next bit of danger, not what the lad on the fully tricked out bandit 12 says.

i think imho that the main problem with the piss taking is the born agains who read all the mags and take on their views as they are all image and no show and must own the fastest the best bike the best looking they do not know about handling braking tyres suspension but if you put some fancy stickers on it with a fast 0-100 time they will buy it is only when you ride bikes for a lot of miles and a lot of time that you understand what it all about. my last part of this rant is the next guy you filter past stationary on a bike in traffic on a sportsbike (whilst on your wide handled two sticky out cylinders bike) call him a wan*er and tell him you are a tosser:blast and just keep on going happy in the knowledge he will never catch you cause he is stuck in traffic:clap:beerjug::spl1f::hogroast
