Dear all
further to my replacement of the O rings around the oil filler cap. (see previous thread)
I have the O rings but can't get the filler pipe off to fit the larger one. I was told by a bloke at Vines that it screws out. Needless to say(but I will) I have been turning it for some time now with NO result. Don't want to damage it trying to get it off but I am missing something here or have i been lied to as a prank? HELP?!

thanks
Sol

Sounds like the cap and plastic insert are spinning in the cover which means that the cap will not unscrew. I have in the past used a flat head screw driver to lever the filler cap together with the insert out from the cover. (Be careful).

Or you could remove the cover and push the whole assembly out from the other side.

oil filler cap epilogue

thanks to all
YES it does lever off (with a cloth and soft metal spoon handle in this case). I thought i would share the knowledge that; looking at the filler pipe, I noticed that the filler cap should only be screwed in clockwise as the other way (which was possible with the TT filler cap) seems to go against the grooves and wreck the filler pipe.
Perhaps their are some grandmothers out there telling me that they have sucked enough eggs but you never know....

all the best
