Gibraltar Journal......

Afterword…..

It turns out that Mike & Caroline had problems with their (Pay as you go) phones & ran short of credit, so didn’t get any messages until it was too late to act on them. They made their own way North (via Oradour, which had always been in our original plan) and had caught the ferry back 24 hours early. I’ve used quite a few of Mike & Caroline’s pictures in the thread. Here are a few more pictures I couldn’t find space for……..

Thanks Mike,

One of the best Journals I've read........:thumb :bow

I trust you are putting a link on Advrider.........the Guys over the Pond would love this story with the excellent Pics.

I presume it's years of Paperwork that have left their mark in the story telling dept. ;)

Cheers,

CC

please add the route plan if can

Terry,

unfortunately, due to the unusual nature of the planning (and the unusual number of changes:D), I don't have a route plan available. The last (& best) few days were literally reactive to sights and signs, with just a vague direction to ride in.

Had I/we followed the plan I originally made (Norfolk to St Gaudens planned in Mike & Caroline's kitchen over a Chinese takeaway, St Gaudens to Gib planned on a picnic table in bright sunshine at Cartgate picnic area with Bilko :p), the route would probably have been anything up to 500 miles longer (we chose some very wiggly roads :D).

The uncertainty of deciding where to go & where to stay (which can only really be done solo) made the last section of the trip the most enjoyable. The 'rough plan' with a route planned but used as a guideline is definitely the way I'll do another trip like this. I also firmly believe that 2 or 3 bikes is the absolute maximum for a trip like this - any more and no-one gets what they want out of it.....

Mike
Just finished reading :p
excellent pics, S45 i presume.

Gates,

quite right ;). Mike's pix were taken on a Kodak 2Mpix camera (can't remember the model - but it's a couple of years old - ancient in this game, eh?).

The pix at Azincourt, Omaha Beach and the cemetery were taken on a disposable Agfa, then processed and put onto disk by my local Tesco in 24hrs for about £8 - I'm pretty impressed by the results!

Mike
