Givi Airflow Screen review

Im not sure how to describe this right, I had the outside knob/adjuster then a threaded nut on the inside i think you call it a captive nut, then a third locking nut which seems to stop the inner nut from unscrewing off when you slacken the adjuster for different screen heights.

I have sorted it out thanks. I am new to the GS ,and adjustable screens etc...fitting the Givi has been a slow process as I have had to learn from scratch ! However, by a process of elimination I have fitted the screen and have established how the adjuster screw and its nuts fit.
Givi instructions are poor.Once done its much quicker to take off and refit, maybe 15 mins.

My initial thoughts are the screen does reduce much of the buffetting , but its a big screen !...not sure if it really is what I am after ...I bought my GS because its so much lighter and easier to use than other adventure bikes...this screen while effective, " bulks up" the bike.I dont want a full dress tourer,... but a lithe agile B road scratcher...

I may experiment with one of the much smaller screens to see if that helps smooth up the airflow, as my speed triple only had a flyscreen, and up to 100 plus it was comfortable. Given the GS maxes out at 130, I am wondering if a small screen might be an alternative.?

I bought my first GS last year and, having read what was available of this and other sites, went for Tobinators to kill the buffeting on my standard screen. Having fitted the Tobinators I left about a 2 inch gap under the bottom of the screen and then laid the screen back towards me as far as it would go - this requires you to do some work on the adjustment bolts and holes as they are oval when new and need to be round - simple job with a Dremel. As a result, the air coming under the screen kills the buffeting and I am very happy with the protection I get all the way through the speed range. However, if you are looking for a completely air, buffet, fly, rain and sensation free environment, it might not be right for you - otherwise its excellent. I am 6' 2" and ride with the seat on high. But, as you hav eused a fly screen in the past, I suspect it might work well for you and doesn't cost a fortune - Tobinators available from Nippy Norman.

Hi reckless, you are'nt too far from me..was at Uppingham yesterday to grab a brekkie roll and tea, while the Harleys gathered for a rideout !

I have looked at the tobinator.But were unavailable when I last checked. I had an idea to cut down my stock GS screen ( I got a free tinted one in the latest promotion) to see just where the buffetting stops ( if it does) ...but I reckon I will try the tobins first.TBH my experience with the speed triple ( 3 yrs 13k miles) was it was fine, wind never bothered me at all.Quiet , buffetting free.I also have a fazer 1000 which has always had similar issue like the GS with getting a good working screen, have tried so many for that bike its untrue..have a MRA vario as my allround choice, but still not perfect.

If I duck down with the GS screen set in middle position, its not too bad. If I stand up, the air is perfectly smooth ( ie I am out of screen airflow).I am running out of time to get a shorty screen fitted and checked before my trip this friday ...so I may just stick with the stock screen for now.

GIVI Airflow

Just thought I would pitch in here about the GIVI Airflow Screen.
(GS has winglets)
Fitted it yesterday, took it out today - what a difference! This is defo staying on the machine.

An update on the Airflow. I fitted mine which was very straightforward having taken screen off and put them on the GS before. I've got tobinators from a old screen and have left them on, with the screen on the second bottom notch, and have the lower screen on the highest setting. The small screen is about 1/2 way up. I don't have winglets.

There's a noticeable improvement in airflow, and it's easy to get to 100+ without really noticing the speed, but still some buffeting, despite moving the screen around.

Two small points - I need to get the longer screen adjuster bolts, as the ones on my 05 are long enough to fit the screen supports and spacer, but then with the captive nut installed at the other end, don't unscrew enough to give enough "slack" to adjust the screen height easily.

Second, it squeaks. There is some movement of the screen as the bike goes along, which I think makes the small screen move a bit, causing a squeak. I think it's probably because I need to tighten the nuts on the upper screen mount, but it's driving me nuts currently.

Overall, I'm pleased with it - it's better than the standard screen, standard screen + aerotrim, Nippy high and wide, and Nippy high and wide with aerotrim.

Fitted mine a few days ago, and now happy with set-up.

I found that with the bottom screen laid back (as others have recommended) my hand guards (Touratwat) were touching the screen before getting to full lock. I have now got the bottom screen as near vertical as possible (using the bottom notch on the ally arms at the front, and the side adjustable knobs at the top of the range). Now everything moving freely and effect of the screen much improved. Little or no wind or noise at pretty much any speed up to 70mph. Visor almost superfluous kit

Only problem is my Nippy winglets are close to touching on one side, and this gives an occasional rattle at low speed. I can live with it.

AF330 on a Standard GS

After waiting to see if a used AirFlow came up on here or FleaBay I finally bit the bullet and bought a new one from Ghostbikes......very competitive price + a 5% discount voucher in Ride.

Anyway it finally stopped persisting it down today, so I was able to try my new screen to find out if it is as good as some people on here maintain.

Well, it is. Motorway speeds with visor up and very little wind noise. No buffeting either, though I didn't get that with the standard screen either.

I still have it , as after I fitted it and test rode once, its been in its box ever since. Am wondering if its worth trying it again, or hawking it off to a convert ??

We are all built differently. Personally it has made the world of difference for me. It is not obvious which position works best (i.e. lower down may work better than higher up) which is against common sense so I'd experiment. That being said I am sure you will flog it very very easily if you don't want it.

If there is any chance of it fitting I'll bet my bro would be interested for his Guzzi Breva 1100. The Guzzi accessory screen (Givi made) is worse than useless causing horrendous turbulence. But the 330 sounds plausible.

The date of these posts probably answers the question but....looking at a new 330 (as given up waiting for one to come-up For Sale) but all seem listed for models 04 - 09 only. I've a 2012 GS - do those listed as 04-09 fit the 2012?

It certainly fits my 2010 1200 GS and it says on the instructions it fits all models.

It is not too bad, but you need to pull the rubber grommets from the BMW screen and use them with the Givi.

I spent ages trying to understand the instructions, then gave up and just removed the OE screen and reversed the dissasembly process to fit the Givi.

Takes some experimenting to get it how you want it, for me all the way back and about half way up worked well, and right down when very hot.

Just don't try and wiggle it up on the move (down is OK) or you may find the top half suddenly jumps out and smacks you in the face - luckily I held onto it, but I almost ended up with a screen smaller than stock
