Givi Airflow Screen review

Was wondering whether there was anyone in the parish who is over 6'6" who has fitted a givi airflow, any improvement over the standard screen? If yes, at what setting?

I'm 6'7" and just fitted an airflow to my 2005 gs. Went out for a ride but was a windy day so can't exactly give an objective opinion.

Cannot test more for the time being, busy with what's happening further south.

ordered one from dk today so hoping for the best when it arrives. looks ugly compared to standard adventure screen but if it doesn't work i guess nothing else will. i'll give it a blast on the motorway at different heights and report my findings. i measured my standard screen with the touratech spoiler and this is the same fully extended height of the af330 - 54cm? i have my standard screen at half tilt and can see over it.

does the givi screen tilt in the same way? i see by some blurry pics it's set on the low tilt - is this correct?

Hi, new to the GS world (6 weeks) with a 2007 R1200GS. After riding a K1200s I found the noise/buffeting really difficult to live with. Bike came with a Wunderlich tall screen. Tried a standard GS screen and Tobinators, some improvement but still too much noise/buffeting for my 6' 1" frame. I then found this thread with the excellent pictures from Nigel (Advancedbiker) and great advice from everyone. Fitted a Givi Airflow last week, transformed the bike, now able to ride at 50mph with visor up. Further improvement today after fitting the BMW winglets with much less buffeting around lower chest area.
Thanks to everyone contributing to this thread.

Regards,

Gerry

+1 :thumb2

I have one and have added winglets as well....boy what a difference, 85MPH visor up....no buffeting...highly recommend it. I have mine set about 2" from the lowest setting and do not look through. (I,m 6ft with standard seat height set on low back/high front with a Shoei Qwest - another great bit if kit).

Added my winglets today.... looking forward to trying it.

Hope it goes well NLC. Was on the A3 today 90MPH no buffeting visor up.... brilliant bit of kit if not as good to look at as the OEM screen...hope it is as good for you.

I have added a couple of pics of my set up for ref....let us know how you get on.

Thanks oldnfat. Yes got them on today. I found the instructions for the winglets a little tricky and some of the washers didn't fit on my 2010 GS. Closed my eyes and drilled - installed ok but a tight fit. Will let you know how I get on.

With me before the Givi Screen I thought of selling the BM

Thanks Gerry for the feedback. The forum is a great source and has helped me in many areas as I was new to the BMW. Now you have fitted the winglets, perhaps a power socket.....

Hi Nigel,
Now all I need to do is sell the Standard and Wunderlich screens on eBay! Thanks for the great YouTube videos, really helped during training for my IAM test.

P.S. On these big twins it seems like closing the throttle applies the brakes as well!

Closing the throttle instead of brakes.......

Thanks Gerry,

I find the 1200 gs doesn't slow as quick as my R90s when closing the throttle. But riding the Advanced way, with planning you use the brakes less, and develop that thing called acceleration sense.

sounds like you got it sorted:beerjug:. orderd from dk and still waiting for mine to arrive. givi uk have no stock so i've had to shop around to get one from stock. whatever gets here 1st i'll keep. sold the touratech spoiler so just got standard gsa screen. done 2 motorway journeys and the noise is so bad without the extra spoiler i can't hear my music anymore (bassmonster helmet speakers). i'm really hoping the af330 will be quieter and stop my head from bobbing around. hopefully it will arrive in the next few days. have considered another bike but there's nothing i like the look of. can't do road bike seating anymore.

Good stuff NLC....it the combination with them thur wiglets that makes the difference....welcome to riding nirvana.

I bought my screen from DK Motorcycles a couple of months ago and I think I've now found the right setting for me. :clap

Big thanks to DK for their service and fast delivery. :thumb

I tried the low position that a lot of people seem to use but just didn't work ,got heavy buffeting, then tried fully upright as that works for my mate who is same height as me and has same bike but still no joy.

I ended up at half way position and it seems to be really good.
90mph with visor up so happy with that.:thumb2

If you are finding it difficult to find the right position just keep playing and I'm sure you'll find what works for you.
I was about to get rid of it and put my standard screen back on when it just seemed to click, so keep trying.

Well that's my 2pence worth. :D

got the givi today. i thought others were just being over critical about instructions but i have to say they are appalling. it shows detailed pics of the easy bits and no detail on the lower screen fitting. it's not a language thing and there must be an equal number of italians screaming 'mama mia - de'se intructianos are da rubbish'!

fitted and went for a run. having a gsa with a spoiler i wasn't as impressed as maybe others with a gs that leap from a standard gs screen (which is shorter than gsa).

i'm 5ft 11, gs adventure, high seat pos, winglets standard, panniers and top box fitted.

put the givi on full height (tried other heights but this seemed best for me and my lid). no buffeting of crash helmet at all. noise was reduced but my shark openline isn't the quietest of lids. had some buffeting force to upper arms. on the m25 70mph was great and there was a strong breeze about. 80mph was also good but buffetting to upper arms did increase but i also felt the wind was hitting the bike all over. it's lovely being able to relax a bit on the motorway and not have head shake.

if i said the standard gsa screen with the touratech spoiler scored 6.5 the givi af330 would score 9.

i think this is probably the best solution in the world of gs screens (even though it is ugly) and i doubt if any other screen combo will beat it. i know i'll be keeping it anyway.

thanks for all the feedback:beerjug:

would also like to know what lower screen tilt position everyone else has on their af330? mines on the lowest but my standard screen was half way. not sure if making these adjustments wil make any difference.

It does make a difference, I moved mine all the way up and down. Lowest setting works best for me:beerjug:

Tried mine low as most people seem to do but no use for me.Then tried top position as my mate did (he's same height and got same bike) but again no good.
So I'm now at half way position and all seems good.
It's just trial and error as to what suits you.

Good luck

cheers, was going to try moving it but got some bar risers which also move bars back 16mm (to stop my back and shoulder ache on longer runs), put upper on full height and tilt on low, now found my perfect setup.

Having read this thread I decided I perhaps ought to order an airflow, I wasn't really expecting it to arrive until next week but it turned up yesterday.

I did around 250 miles last Friday with the standard screen and pretty much hated every mile - it was a windy day and I struggled to be honest.

Anyway I fitted the screen this morning (I was waiting for a more technical mate to do it for me but decided to have a go.) I have just been out for a little ride about with the bottom screen at its lowest and the top at about 3/4's.

Fair enough, I didn't go above 80mph but I didn't need to lower my visor at all.

Why the hell this is not standard equipment I really don't know, it has totally transformed the bike.

Anyway NN Winglets to fit over the weekend - I don't really see how it can improve but I am prepared to be amazed.
