I'm new (3 weeks) to this GS lark and I thought I'd make my first proper post one of value.

I've just got myself an 08 GS with 7k on the clock and the first thing I noticed on picking it up is that the standard screen needs replacing. The same story on virtually every bike I've owned for the past 30 years. Why can't manufacturers get it right?

My new to me bike also appears to have the warped disc problem:blast but it's under warranty still and booked in to be done so no sleep lost there.:augie

After a good nose around the many screen threads on this forum I went for the Givi AF330. Had Givi before and they've always delivered the goods. The MRA was considered but in the photo's it looked narrower so I was concerned that whilst it might improve helmet noise it would fall down on protection elsewhere

The quality and finish is excellent and as good if not better than the original. Install instructions are rubbish and it uses all the original screens fittings plus some extras supplied so it takes a while to work it all out.

Protection. About as good as you're going to get on the GS I think. There is still wind noise but it's not coming from the helmet/ screen area but the rest of the GS body work. I was up to 60 mph on the commute this morning before I realised I still had my visor up. Buffeting is virtually completely eliminated. It is also wider than the original which helps I think. Ear plugs are no longer required cruising at 80/85

The screen is adjustable (I'm 6ft) and I've got the top set level with the bottom of my visor. The screen could be set 2" lower or 3" higher. There is a little increased vibration at idle but I supposed this is to be expected with the additional height. This stops once on the move

Looks. Not bad. Not quite as good as original but more than worth it for the quiet ride. Cost £150 delivered and I'm pleased with my purchase.

Hope someone finds this useful :thumb2

I'm not affiliated to Givi in any way, just a happy biker

screen

HI fella
do you have any pictures of the screen as i'm looking for one for my 2010 gs and i love givi

Being only a cheapskate member I can't post photos here. I took a few photos of a GS that Les Wassell was improving because it had an AF330 fitted and I fancied getting one. The lower part of the screen is so wide that winglets aren't needed.

I fitted a Givi Airflow to my '08 R1200GS yesterday and agree with what Tuono1961 says above, i.e. poor instructions, but you soon work it out and the screen is excellent so far - the difference from standard is a revelation!!! :thumb2

I was originally thinking of spending the extra £££ (more than double the Givi) and upgrading to the adventure screen, but I just couldn't bring myself to paying so much to the very people that got the standard screen so wrong.

Anyway (rant over), with the new screen set at it's lowest angle and height (still higher than standard though), wind noise and buffetting have gone - all I can hear now is the engine :) Btw, I'm 5'10" and have the seat on low and have so far tested it up to 60mph.

I'm riding to Pembrokeshire on Thursday afternoon, so I'll post an update of the motorway experience after Easter, hopefully with some pics as well.

So far - thoroughly recommended!

Ps. I'm interested in adding the winglets too, so would also be keen to hear if they fit and make a worthwhile difference...

Keep me posted withthe winglets

Looking at getting the Givi screen, but already purchased and fitted winglets. I take it the wind noise around the helmet has reduced ?
Would appreciate an update on the motorway trip as I am off to Normandy mid April, 500 mile jaunt, via Eurotunnel, all motorway,

Regards

I've done 3000 miles since fitting my screen last november - i posted pics and blurb way back.:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2:thumb2

this screen is an absolute must in my opinion - works well at all speeds and all weather conditions , it's quirky looks suit the gs to a tee and quality is as good as it gets in my opinion.

I'm off on a trip to normandy with british bike tours on the 16th April but we are using the ferry from dover, can't be same trip can it ??

here's a couple of pics for anyone that hasn't seen it

Thanks for the photos, appreciate them. The Normandy trip is advanced training, not a tour as such. We are stopping in Carentan. You never know we may pass each other as I am there from the 15th to the 19th, mainly in land around the D999, D911 etc. Twisties

Have a good time

I promised an update after my Easter ride to south Wales, but after seeing the awful weather forecast I decided to take the wimp's way out and drive. I'm still loving the new screen though on my daily commute (up to 50mph). I'll try and post an update as soon as I get some motorway miles under the belt...

Called D K and the guy I spoke to had never heard of it, had to look it up on the Givi web site, finally got a price of £130.00 + p&p and it should arrive by the weekend.

Now what have you bought? :ronno

Mine arrived last week and looks like a superb bit of kit. I'll get it fitted this weekend and report back :)

Hiya Nigel,

My Givi AF330 finally arrived today, I think it got caught up in the volcano fiasco. Thought you might want to know the screen will fit with winglets on. I have my screen set in the lowest position but, I think from the looks of it you should get the full range of adjustment..... I have tried to though.

Instructions are terrible as previously posted!

I haven't tested it out yet, I am going out tomorrow and i will post some feedback on the screen when I get home.

Cheers

I fitted mine last weekend and agree that the instructions aren't good (they don't really mention resusing all the BMW OE hardware), but it was still a pretty forward job :)

I've only ridden three miles on it since then, so will report back once it's had a decent run this weekend

Let me know how it performs

Just come back from Normandy and on day one rode from Soke on Trent to the Eurotunnel and the straight to Normandy, about 550 miles. Arrived refreshed and at times rode with my visor up. No buffeting at all, but a hell of a lot of wind noise, with the BMW original screen next to highest setting. If I leaned forward slightly, no noise.
I await your report......

Nigel

Ps

Roads and weather great:
