Givi Airflow Screen review

i doubt it as it's for a 1200gs or gsa. withought the correct fittings for the bike it will not work. even if you had access to engineering tools and materials to knock something up it would just look odd on an 1150 as it's narrower at the front. even on the 1200 it's not the prettiest of things but it works very well. i guess it's one of these: http://www.givi.co.uk/My-motorcycle/?ma=BMW&mo=R-1150-GS-00--03 or buy a 1200gsa. i had an mra on my transalp and it was better than stock screen.

I've not seen an Airflow for the 1150. When I had my 1150 I did a lot of chopping and changing screens and the best I got to was the MRA with torbinators.

Cheers

Excellent so far

Just fitted one to my new bike, thanks Cieran. Have had an 09 GS before with stock screen & cannot believe how better the AF is. Seems fine at the moment, may try with winglets when the weather gets more blowy.

I'm going to Scotland in a couple of weeks and decided that to make the motorway part of the journey more pleasant it would be worthwhile investing in a replacement screen for my 1200GS. I've just ordered a Givi Airflow from DK at £129.99 delivered with our discount; the positive feedback on these outweighs any negative thoughts by a huge margin so I guess it's a pretty safe bet. It should arrive tomorrow and I'll fit it on Friday afternoon. I've also got a pair of winglets on the way from NN so I'll be able to do a few comparisons of winglets with original screen, Airflow, Airflow with winglets. I'll keep you all informed of how I get on.

Feeling more confident about my 450 mile day to Fort William already :flag

Have the Airflow and dem Winglets great. I'll save you the Agro the Givi uses the bolts from the original screen.

You will find a big difference, nearly sold my BM before I fitted the screen and winglets. Only problem now is lack of wind on a hot day.... On the motorway I have my screen half way and then drop it down for normal riding. Enjoy the experience, wise buy.

Airflow fitted! No sign of the winglets yet. Will be riding to work on the motorway tomorrow.

It took me an hour to fit but saying that I have a cockpit fascia fitted which made it more difficult.

It makes the bike look even bigger.

Will report back tomorrow.

Good stuff. Just so you know when you fit the winglets, the plastic beak can move against the template when drilling and easy to end up with swiss cheese. Make sure you use some tape to prevent the drill moving and to be on the safe side I would progressively start with a very small drill bit and work your way up than just one go. There is a steel frame underneath the plastic and the holes have to line up. After you have drilled the smaller hole look underneath the beak and you can make some adjustments if need be. Good luck and make a big difference.

Thanks for the tip with the winglets. Unfortunately they're not here yet. Postie stuck a card through the door without knocking again at 8.30am and when I went to the sorting office at 7pm they said my parcel hadnt come back yet.

Anyway, the Airflow is fab! Got it right after two tweaks, it's slightly lowered on the adjustment screws and the top screen is halfway. The first time I tried it, I got it wrong and the turbulence at the back of my head at 70+ was horrendous.

Fingers crossed for the winglets tomorrow.

Does anyone know if they do a dark tinted version of the AF330? I'm thinking about going for a dark adventure screen, but the Givi looks quite good. It has to be dark tinted though.:rob

Are they at the NEC this weekend?

I've never seen or heard of a tinted version! You should still get one though Huge difference.

Hi Folks, yes GIVI are at the bike show. No there is not a dark version imported (at least there was not when i got mine). yes, it does work with winglets. yes its great. The downside ?. due to the lack of air getting to you it can get very warm behind the screen. The answer of course is to ride naked.

Would it be better than a GSA screen?:nenau

Personally i cannot say which is best as i have not used a GSA screen. What i can say is the GIVI costs MUCH less than the GSA.
and as a parsimonious tight wad yorkshire man that counts for a lot :thumb

Fitted Airflow to my Triple Black this week - fairly straight forward so long as you make sure you use all the bits off the old screen ;)

Tested it today over a 160 mile trip and have to say that I am impressed :thumb

Have fitted BMW Winglets as well the combination is better than my last 1200GSA which I also used a Touratech spoiler on!

Still playing with different positions but so far one position up from bottom and top screen nearly fully extended appears to work best (6'3" with high seat in tallest position).

Not sure I like the looks but can live with it as it works so well :D

Thinking of getting one as everybody says there so good but you cant say it looks good ,in fact it looks terrible to me. Do you get used to it and is the benefit worth putting up with ruining the look of a not very attractive bike in the first place.

The looks are slowly growing on me :eek

Not sure that you can ruin the looks of a GS - as you say not a great looker to start with.

IMO worth buying one to see what you think and if you do not like it you can flog it again on here ;)
