Givi Airflow Screen review

Givi Screen

Just bit the bullet and bought an Airflow from Givi, off ebay for £109.99 + £9.99 postage so a bit of a saving - company has relisted so they have more available . As others have noted instructions are a bit baffling at first but managed to sort it out and fitted the new screen in about an hour, and I'm not very mechanically minded.
I am still at the stage of trying different settings but I am finding as others have said it possible to ride in the eighties with your visor up and at the moment I have the bottom screen at around half way and the top just an inch of slide showing but having seen others with the bottom section right down I might try that. I'm 5' 11'' and set the seat low at the back and high at the front as I find that most comfortable. ( helmet is a Schuberth C2 - can't afford a C3 yet now )

I also have to agree with all the Giviots in this thread!

I am 190 cm (6'2") but with proportions like a dachshound; my legs are as long as those of a normal 175 cm (5'7") guy, which makes me not very spineless...

I fitted a 330 a couple of days ago, and it truly was a revelation! No buffeting, no "drumbulence" beating my eardrums into pulp (as with the high original screen, even with plugs and a Schuberth C3)!

I've tipped the lower part up one notch, and have the upper one at it's highest.

I noticed yesterday, with passenger, that the flow of air did snap at my helmet, if ever so slightly. Not so while riding alone. I'll do some more experimenting.

And regarding it's "quirky looks"... Well, what is it sitting on? And, us Swedes managed to sell quite a few Volvo 740 too, in those days...

But are they ok to fit on a 2006? I've seen discussions about needed reinforcements not existing until 2008 and on? Or was that the original BMW ones? Guess I have to read more about it.

And about settings and adjusting; Yesterday I found that I needed to tip the screen all the way up, in barn door mode, to make it work properly with my 175 -cm-passenger.
The upper screen is half way up.

I've fitted both the Givi and the NN winglets to my 2006 GS and they are the best changes I've ever made to a bike. I drilled through the side panels and fitted the winglets with no reinforcement and after 2.5 years the side panels haven't ripped off in the wind (yet. . .).

I had airflow on today and been riding about 3 hours on mixture of roads. Have decided to go back to standard screen. It seems to me this screen displaces more air and creates a sheltered spot but at cost of increasing pressure at the top and that seems to pulse and slap my head which is more annoying that regular buffeting. Tried moving screen around but it works best when top of airflow part is bang in my line of sight which very distracting and the biggest reason I going back to stock. Unless anyone found something better. I was wondering if beak extender to displace more air ahead of the bike might help? anyone got one? How is it?
 
I find that any screen put too vertical (i.e. too far away from rider's head) causes buffeting. Lean the screen back as far as it will go and try again. Also use it at lowest and highest positions to get some idea of where inbetween is best for comfort.

Beak extender its too low to have any effect on the rider's airflow and I assume is there to deflect water away from the headlights.
 
I agree with the post about having it back towards the rider. I have the bottom tilted right back and the upper part about half up. I set it like that as a starting place and have left it there ever since. By a long way the best screen I have had. I'm fussy about buffetting. 5 foot 8 by the way. Do the winglets make it even better?, I'm concerned at spoiling what I've got.
 
Yes, I found that the winglets stop any side to side buffeting on your body (ribs area). They just complete the set.
 
problem with finish?

I have had mine for 9 months or so, great screen for reduction of wind noise/buffeting etc.

Unfortunately I have found the paint on the metal supports has started flaking, and there is rust below. Seems a bit rubbish for a product less than 1 year old, even if I ride in all weathers and through winter. Anyone found the same problem?
 
My story....

Originally had a Nolan N103 and i needed ear plugs with the standard screen. I always fancied a Schuberth C3 and got a good deal. Turns out the C3 is very sensitive to buffeting and therefore louder than the nolan!! I've adjusted the screen all the way through its various settings including adjusting the seat (i'm 5'11") but to no avail. I had a look through here and took the plunge and ordered this screen. Now I'm known as Mr Cynical and wasn't going to expect too much, BUT. This is incredible. Visor up at 70mph and now nice and quiet inside the C3 with no buffeting. Just the job :thumb

The screen is set on its lowest position..
 
AF330 installation

I got mine from Crewe Honda who are my local Givi stockist. They were within a pound or two of the mail order prices and the guys there were really helpful and even installed it for me. I have been using it for a year now and am really happy with it, initially I was dissapointed with the remaining buffeting but got the BMW winglets too which completely cured this.

My only problem is that the stickers started to peel after a couple of thousand miles so I have pulled them off. Anyone got any ideas how to get the remaining glue off without scratching the screen!

Yes I saw mine drop on first ride from london to dover. Usually around 57mpg but that trip, albeit loaded saw me around 47mpg. Usually loaded is around 54
