Givi GPS holder

using this, can anyone think of a reason not to get a 150 quid car gps instead of a $$$ zumo?

seems like a good idea but feels like im missing something ... ?

I have one of these. They're a very recent addition to the Givi range and I bought it because I have a Garmin 2620 and thought if the unit suffered any vibration problems on it's Touratech mount, this may solve it.

First off, they are a universal fit, which in truth means they nearly fit everything but don't quite fit anything. Never the less, they are very well made and I don't doubt will be waterproof. They attach by way of velcro straps and aren't really suited to the GS because of the cross bar. They are designed more for sports bikes or at least bikes with the top yoke exposed, where they sit on top of the yoke and the straps wrap round underneath it. They rely on the yoke as a platform for stability.

Mine cost £38 and in terms of build quality and usefulness is probably worth it (if you happen to have a handlebar configuration which it fits!).

KMD - what's a yoke exactly? im guessing it wont fit a 650 Dakar too well?

here's a tank bag by Held that seems to have a dedicated section for GPS. click the image to enlarge (site in dutch)

weird thing is, this image has a PDA which is viewed vertically whereas most gps are horizontal (widescreen), so the orientation of this thing could be wrong. still its half price. and its a tankbag that doesnt need to be strapped to handlebars ...

seems like a good choice?

Stef..........A yoke is the clamp which the forks fit through. I believe in the USA they are called 'Triple Tree's' and are what attaches the forks to the steering stem.

GreatScott..............My local bike shop is a Givi dealer. I just asked him to source a part No for it and he ordered a couple in. It was in his current Givi catalogue.

I'm considering one for the Tomtom I use in the car.

I quite like that a pen fits below the satnav. I like to carry pens on my bike but have not yet found a suitable carrier, this will fit the bill. I don't have a satnav though.

I've owned one for a couple months now and have a cheap Garmin Nuvi inside. I think it's a good little bag for its price. The only issue on my Dakar is that with the normal set up the screen is parallel to my body, which makes it hard to see the screen.

However, the cable that comes out of the bag and goes toward the battery can be positioned so that it tilts the bag up. This makes its position perfect. I've done 700Km in one day in France, all on little roads (hundreds of left and right turns read off the screen) using this setup and it worked fine. Every now and then I nudged it back in to place but it was never a pain.

It comes with a rain cover which was tested in a downpour - keeps the water out and the screen remains readable.

There's a secondary pouch in this bag that can hold wallet, sunglasses and a mars bar. I also put the cigarette lighter plug with connecting wires in here so that stays dry.

I'd never spend 3 - 4 times this on a real bike GPS and clamps.

The cross bar on the handlebars of my 1150gs. I think the Givi is a great idea, but I just couldn't find a way of securing it onto my bike that left the sat nav in a suitable position to see properly, hence I also have one that's never been used yet. I have a ZX9R that may get a trip out next year, in two minds wether to try the Givi on that or just Ram mount the Zumo.

Do you have any pictures of that setup? I like mine but the angle isn't always ideal.
