Hi all,
Think I am about to be offered a new job in a factory between Gloucester and Cheltenham.:thumb
I have had a quick look at house prices in general and they look comparable to Plymouth prices...but I am not sure about the areas:confused: I know every town has good and bad so if anyone could point me out places to avoid????
Thanks to all
Gee

Have a look at Longlevens - it's on the right side of Gloucester just a short distance from where you would be working, close to the A40/M5 junction & Staverton airport.

There's a mixture of older properties, typical suburbia with bay window style from the 1930s, plus newer houses. I used to work in Gloucestershire and many of my colleagues lived there. Decent schools I believe.

Avoid Matson & Tuffley

Great city no rough areas and evryone is university educated, only problem is the churches get a bit crowded on sunday morning

Nice area

Daughter is at uni in Cheltenham - mostly a truly nice town. With a few very chavvy bits.

Nice new job at the GCHQ 'factory', eh?

Or would that be telling? ;);)

hi there, hubby is a plymouth born and breed, areas to avoid are efford, north prospect, stone house, etc if you want any genuine advice pm happy pilgrim. :thumb2

Nice place to relocate. Got family and many friends living in the Longlevens area, good spot!

Have a look at Longlevens so long as you get the non- flodded parts! :aidan

Cheltham is very, very nice but a lot more expensive:thumb2

Thanks to you all for your replies and experiences.:bow
My good lady and I will be travelling up shortly to look at properties/locations etc.
You are right it is a lovely part of the country.
Banjaxed...;)
Thanks once more.:thumb

Avoid the Quedgeley and Hardwike sprawl, also Matson, Coney Hill and Tredworth. Longlevens is not a flooding zone, it was just a few houses in an area that should never have been built on. You will find that house prices are slightly cheaper the Glos side of Staverton where I presune that you have the new job. Dont be fooled by the fact that Cheltenham looks better cos its a shithole at night. Hatherley is glos side of Chelt so would fit your requirements. Any further info email me as I have lived and worked the shire all my adult life.

Hello Silverbob,
Thanks for valuable information.
I will list those areas and take them with us when we visit Estate Agents etc.
Once again thanks to all who took the time to reply.:thumb

Gloucester.. have to agree with SilverBobGS, but nothing wrong with Quedgeley and Hardwicke, Hardwicke is nicer than Quedegeley, couple of the schools there were the best in the country last year, excluding private. There is a M5 junction at Quedgeley, North or south bound (north to chelt), keep well away from the citycentre, you will need to get about 5mile outside before there is anything nice. Cheltenham is alot more expensive, but also has some very rough parts, best thing to do is go for one of the small cotswold villages, 15 - 20 miles away from both.

Hi SilverBobGS

Being that you are in Gloucestershire, if you ever fancy a bit of a ride out let me know, Im in Hardwicke.

Yes that would be great, trying to get some miles on the beast after having a new engine fitted. Normally head off into Wales when the weather isnt too bad but stay away from the targetted roads. I do run the Gloucestershire Police motorcycle club but its open to all and no we are not the type to preach about speeding etc, we just go out and have a good time and enjoy bikes and scenery and biking in general. Do runs out onto the continent occassionally to visit our european friends and help them discover how to drink.
