Go pro

Bear's solution is, honestly, really really good. I'll give it a try.
I like the security strap.
I recently had my GoPro flying away from the bike (I use a RAM mount screwed underneath the steering plate) at speed. Incredibly it survived. But, no matter how good your mount is, always check the plastic lips at the bottom of the case, where you screw it in on the mount. Mine snapped there. I have to add that is an old Hero, and I used it for many years. It started vibrating a lot in the last hours of use, but I didn't notice the plastic cracking...

but I can't help smiling when I see people with then mounted onto their helmets

Same here.

I mounted on top of an old helmet once when we went on minimotos... but the view of me (6'2", heavy) on a minimoto was ridicolous enough even without considering the GoPro on top of my head a la teletubbie. :D :D :D

Must admit i do look a clown at the best of times but like you say with this on the lid well yes even more so:D

Being honest it does look bad but I really dont physically feel any difference with it on the lid, the wind isnt a problem and there is no noticable difference that i feel.

Got mine underneath the beak. Clear view forward with no obstruction and very inconspicuous. Remote mounted on left side of tank just behind the bar when straight ahead so very little movement required to turn it on. Hasn't fallen off yet!
Sounds like a good solution, if a tad low down. Does the shot take in any of the beak or other part of the bike? As per an earlier comment, I too like to have a part of the helmet or bike within the shot as a reference. But a ram mount there could be good, even perfect for a gopro (honestly) :-)

If you have the gopro set to wide angle you see the beak, but set to narrow you don't, although if I mounted it a tad further back I should think I would. If I knew how to do it I would post a short example for you to see, but quite honestly don't have a clue how to!

Just ordered this aluminium mount £4.28 long arm but also available similar to Bears around £3 why buy genuine gopro mounts ??? good old China ;)

The mounts for the SJ4000 camera (which is better specced than a Go-Pro but less than 40 quid all in by the way :augie) are the same as those for the Go-Pro.

So if you're searching for mounts, try 'SJ4000' as an entry :)

I brought the sj4000 cos it represents a better value for money than gopro, plus if it did get totalled I'd not be half as sad :)

Mine cost £53 but is genuine sjcam there are plenty of fakes of the fake lol

Just a thought, and it may not make any difference, but how about upping the frame rate? I'm not sure if this will make a difference, I'd be interested to find out though.
I mount my drift off the engine bars and suffer from vibration in the video. I'll try it myself when I get the time.

Sorry to hijack this thread, but can anyone recommend a mic to go from helmet mounted camera (3.5mm) to inside helmet. I see lots of videos where people are doing a running commentary whilst riding.

Cheers

I use a Sony AS 100 VR rather than a GoPro. Wherever I've put it in the bike is subject to vibration at some point so I use a helmet mount. The shape of the Sony lends itself better to helmet mounting as it's not the ubiquitous GoPro brick shape and it's pretty streamlined but you still look a knob :) however I'm prepared to suffer for my art ;)

I also made a side mount which attached the camera fairly forward on the helmet chin bar but it was a bit low and included too much of the GSA screen in the shot. However for a bike with no screen (or a smaller one) it would be ideal.

Oh and the SJ cams. Yep they might be cheap, look the same and on paper the spec is as good as a GoPro but when you compare the output they aren't even close. The lens, sensor, underlying firmware and construction of a genuine GoPro is in a different league. I know, I have an SJ. The Sony is better still ;)

My old Go Pro is mounted on a ram ball on my crash bars but I get a lot of vibration in the footage which ruins things (I also get condensation forming inside the housing where the lens gets cold). My engine behaves oddly, sometimes silky smooth and sometimes rougher than a bears arse. When its bad the footage is very wobbly. I guess I need to use a helmet mounted camera instead so I might get a drift HD.

all the bike mounts I've tried on both the twin cam and the lc have all suffered from vibration.
all the helmet shots have had better quality images but the camera is in line for all the bugs that either miss the screen or get fired over the top of it by the airflow and seem to then get splattered on the lens ruining the footage.
all in all go pro has been not the most successful experiment

This was all filmed using my Sony action cam (all the riding with the camera helmet mounted). It's just about vibration free - much more successful than bike mounting. I did get a few 'bug' incidents but nothing too bad. Getting plastered in crap by a timber truck was more of an issue :)

So Matt ....

(talking as a luddite ..), Your videos look like they've had some serious editing treatment. Tell me a bit about that ....

(I'd quite like to do some commentary videos but I'm so shite on a computer .... :D)
