I was cruising around the world and happened to chance upon the Hepco & Becker site and check out what's new.

I checked out their new Gobi (as in desert I presume) extreme expedition panniers. These panniers come with internal and external walls that are connected to each other with a 3.5L volume for liquids in between. Pretty good place to store water, unless you crash and spring a leak!

The panniers are able to carry 100Kg each, which could make for interesting handling situations. The panniers are top loaders with the lid connected via a chaincloth hinge(s).

These panniers do seem to be the next version of the ubiquitious aluminium panniers that we are all familiar with.

Click onto Gobi and you are there.

Has anyone heard of these before?

Mick.

Hmmm, plastic. I think I'll stick with aluminium - far more resiliant to impact and easier to repair (read possible to repair) in the event of an 'off'.
Why do you think they designed them to carry ten times the weight they'll be used for? - I'm trying to think of what you would want to carry 37 litres of that would weigh 100kg....... :D

My KTM LC8 owing friend got a pair for his bike lately and the finish leaves a lot to be desired. I don't think they would survive very far on rough roads especially carrying 100kg .
We will see.

Pat, do you know how they carry liquid and/or how does one get the liquid out?

I cannot imagine that one inverts a pannier to get a drink, but I could be wrong.

Mick.

Hi Mick
They carry the water between the inner and outer walls,
with a little tap at the back.
I saw them on a ktm 950 ,badged as ktm....

Hepco Gobi Panniers

When I spoke with Motorworks, the UK Hepco distributor, regarding the Aluminium panniers the guy there advised me that the Gobi panniers had been delayed, possibly for production quality reasons.

He was extremely helpful and very, very honest in his approach and recommendations. Give them a call.

Their price list has also been frozen against a good Euro exchange rate so you could get a bargain their....

3.5 l of water?........ Thats about 8 pints. Coincidently, just the right amount of beer for a nights camping..... Just imagine.....tent, nice location, camping chair. Bike on centre stand, just alongide tent. handy tap, just at the right height. Flat pannier lid for glass and hors doofers......perfection.
