Going a-wandering with a hacksaw tommorrow.....

Can't you just put an OE system back on?

There must be hundreds of tossers with standard systems gathering dust in their garages!

Greg

Edit: Aren't you one of them?

I would Greg.....and I do have my original cat sitting in a cupboard....fitting that back on and going for the CoolCarbon stubby effect would be ideal (apart from the possible increased risk when taking the bike swimming, but I'm used to dealing with that with a horizontal rear box so no biggy)

However...the cat came off at 600 miles, 5 years, 70k miles and an awful lot of dirt ago.......I just know that trying to get the Y piece off, lambda sensor out and cat back on is going to be an absolute mofo of a job involving docker language, bleeding knuckles, snapped tools and tears :D

I'm going for the easy option 'cos I'm a poof :D

Things moved on a bit today....my deadline is fast approaching so something had to happen, plus my new panniers arrived, Vernatechs obviously, there just ain't anything else that strong, big or well made, period. :)

Tried to fit panniers with existing 'zorst, no good......after much pissing about and measuring things, have concluded that the 'zorst is wrong....the bracket as supplied dropped 3 and a half inches from the footrest hanger (see pic above) and the back end of the 'zorst was not going to fit in the box cut-out :(

Searched in bike gubbins and found short bracket (1 inch drop) from original Remus..(had to drill out, steel stuck solid in what was left of titanium skin) ...fitted to new remus, realised that this new one is probably wrong type for bike if panniers are being fitted.....arse!!

So back to plan 'a' rather than trying the shortcut to plan 'b'....think about finding short section of 'zorst pipe with 30 degree kink......

No, sod it, plan 'c'.....the final versions of my built to order panniers are no-cut-out, built in the knowledge that I was going to have a horizontal box and gaining max volume/shape in the left hand pannier....finding a kinky pipe is hassle, and having seen how everything fits together now, I just know I'm going to be drilling brackets, bending things and generally bodging stuff about.....so let's go for a stubby (have cat in cupboard)

Undo downpipe to 'y'piece connections...oo, that went well....undo 'y'piece mounts behind centre stand hinge, blimey that was easy.......

Knock Y piece back with rubber mallet, fekk, it came loose!

Drop Y piece down, soak lambda sensor with WD......test with 22mil spanner, solid......

Cuppa, soak, test, solid.....

Call technical.....'Whack it with a'ammer' he says......whack it with hammer and it undoes.....cracking!!!

Wind up lambda wires as technical advised, screw sensor in, offer up cat, it matches holes (it should do, but let's face it, you don't expect it to do you? :D)

Bolt up connectors, bolt up torx behind centre stand hinge, crikey..this is going too well!!

Start bike...hmm, not as nice as Uncle Remus but ok.......

Reset Motronic just to make sure......

A satisfying and easy day......all I need now is a stubby pipe to divert the flow and it's job done...if that nice Mr Sabin can't sort me out I know I can get one from chavtastic Halfords so not a problem......and I can stick with the original pannier design and end up with full sized WHOPPERS as before :)

Sorry Og.....not gonna be hunting for that pipe anymore :)

:)

Missed a bit..

Started bike with Y piece only.......

**** that's loud!!!!

Then took off Y piece and started with downpipes only (well you have to, don't you!!)

FUCK that's SOOOOOO loud!!!

Turned round and all the neighbourhood chav kids are standing there with their fingers in their ears and big grins....I'm a chavtastic hero!!! :D

i used to run my bonnie with downpipes only - but i was only 20 so it was brilliant :D

Rosie's house is three streets away....I called her and got her to go out in the back garden when I started it on just the Y piece....she could hear the bike on tickover :D

When I blatted it just a little, the noise was almost like a physical assault ....fekkin ace though :D

Call technical.....'Whack it with a'ammer' he says......whack it with hammer and it undoes.....cracking!!!

Did you know that my technical support phone line is premium rate.

:( Can't I sort you out with sexual favours like we used to?

Oh how things have changed :tears

Not now you've stopped taking those tablets and your moobs have disappeared and i've stopped wearing nappies. I used to enjoy burying my head in those, my big ginger mummy. :blast

how does a thread in the "technical support" section end up talking about moobs and adults wearing nappies?

.....Sorry Og.....not gonna be hunting for that pipe anymore :)

i was just in "vulture mode" anyhow. :D

you watch a thread to see if you can pick up any helpful hints and tips for yer own problems - pouncing on any tidbits that look like easy pickings! ;)
