Right folks. I'm looking for advice. I want to take the war office to see Highclere Castle as she loves wandering around these old piles and also because Downton Abbey was shot there.
My initial plan is to fly into London stay there from Thursday to Sunday take in a show. Go to the your head gaffers house to show it and the changing of the guard
and then jump on a train to visit Highclere Castle.
Alternatively I was thinking of driving and catching the ferry. The problem is Highclere Castle is a 5+ hr drive. The plan would be drive down visit some spots on the way culimating in visiting the castle and staying somewhere near and leave the London bit for another time
So is there any more touristy spots on the way down we could visit to the castle and can you recommend a nice place areas to stay on the way down and around the castle
Thanks as always
