I'm planning on going to the Eifel/Mosel Valley region for a week next year; stopping in Adenau.

I'm searching for a decent map of the region to take - I've tried the viaMichelin site but all it seems to show is an interactive map for route planning - so can anybody suggest a good map, Michelin or not. If it is the Michelin map can you give me the map number...ta! :thumb

Say hi to George and Birgit at Zweirad Schmidt, Yamaha dealer in Adenau:aidan

Will do :thumb

Cheers will check them out.

Michelin map no. 543 - 1:350000 scale. Not as good as the French maps with 1:250000 but as good as you will get for Germany.

The other Michelin regional maps are listed here http://travel.michelin.co.uk/reg.htm
Covers many countries

If you fancy a day off the bike (and especially if you have an interest in Roman history) then Trier is a very interesting place for a day trip.

Thanks, I love ancient history so that sounds like a good day out:thumb

Loads of very good roads in the area. In fact, littered with them.

The free ADAC maps (available by downlaod) are crude but good for pre-planned routes. The full-on ADAC maps (available in most local fuel stations) are very good, but.....

Maps are personal things. Take yourself into a decent sized bookshop; look through a few and find one that suits your needs.

Me? I like Michelin 1:200,000 scale but I have lots of others, too.

Have fun :thumb2

PS I think I may have some other maps, with pre-planned routes in the area. If I have you are welcome to borrow them for a coiple of weeks to perhaps get some ideas. I will see if I can dig them out. PM me your address, PM me your address. If I can find them I will post them off after Christmas.

Plenty of things to see around there- the Nurburgring is in your doorstep if it is your bag- wasn't really mine- had a plod around regardless. I am involved in racing back home and see tracks and safety from a whole different perspective- that circuit has none of it.

Cochem also makes a good day out, as well as the roads that line the Rhine and the Mosel. A river cruise from Cochem also makes a good trip out.

if your down that neck of the woods have a look at Boppard am Rhein, lovley little town, take the cable car up to the top of the hill overlooking the Rhein.

also have a look at Abtei Mariawald, 52396 Heimbach, Germany, (Abbey Mariawald) they have restaurant basic but good food have the pea soup with sausage, its a damn good ride to get there and spectacular views. Coffee is damn good to, I was there in the summer.

Hi,If you are going near Upton on Severn call in to The Map Shop on the High st or look on thier website.Very helpfull and all the maps you could wish for :thumb2

Happy memories - must go back again...

The Hotel in Boppard that served a meat feast as a main meal. Looked like a well stocked butcher's window, more meat and sausage than you could ever possibly eat...

The road from Alf (on the Mosel) north-east to Daun, via Bad Bertrich: every kind of entertaining road you can ever imagine...

The roads in Luxemborug close to Trier...

You could even plan a trip to the Dam Busters lakes - the loose excuse for our trip there a few years ago...

The main road along the Mosel is very pretty but well policed. What could be a 120 mph race track reduced to sensible speeds by law-abiding locals. (Quite rightly, I suppose.)

We are staying at a hotel in Adenau which has an entry to the Ring 20m away - I will go for a tootle around it just to say I've done it:D

Know it well, very nice place!

You should visit Nurburg as well, super place, pop into Lindenhof for a 'Grille-Haxe' and an 'Erdinger'. Say hello to Renate!

While in Nurburg dinner in Am Tier-Garten is a must (in the keller). This hotel is/was owned by the Schmidtz family, of who Sabene whooped Clarkson's Ass in a trainsit round the Nord-schliefe. (good girl!).

Cochem is a must as well. Superb roads etc...Enjoy!

BTW, when are you going? i am due to go out there for a few days, might be able to meet up?

Steve.
