I'm going to look at a 13 plate 1200 gs and I was wondering what problems they had and what to look for?

I had a 04 plate one some years ago and was great apart from the way the finish wasn't very good.

Also the the bike is standard , but it appears to be te spec

* Premium pack (Dynamic ESA + On board computer Pro + GPS preparation + Cruise Control)
* Cross Spoke wheels
* LED indicators
* Heated grips
* Riding mode pro: Dynamic, Enduro & Enduro Pro

Any thoughts would be helpful, also the other bike I looking at is a multistrada 1200, how do people think they compare?

Hi there
Ive just been in the same predicament. Current ride is a 2013 Tiger 800xc (fab bike pound for pound) but ready to change.
Loved the look of the KTM adventure but wasnt for me after a test ride, what is it with the heat coming through the seat ffs!!
Then rode the strada straight after, what a weapon. More sport tourer than adventure though. Loved it so much I got into figures. Unfortunately out of my monthly budget on pcp. :-(
Next day rode a GS, was sceptical as I tried the air cooled one and just didnt get it. However....
What an incredible bike. Loved it and it didnt feel a kick in the arse from the duke in real world performance. Worked out £55 a month less for the gs over the duke.
Needless to say but Ive ordered one for september :-)

Mine was great. Swapped for a GSA now. Extend the warrantee after the two years are up and you will have nothing to worry about.

I'd be checking the history to make sure it's not a "rejected" bike....try and speak to the previous owner if you can...:thumb2

If it's been rejected and it's fine when you ride it what's the problem? Better to have a bike that works properly! Just make sure you give it a good test ride, at the end of the day it's under warranty! If you like it, buy it, job done!

No ta..... Would not spend that much on a bike that's been rejected... Not for me..

My tigers a 2013 and Im changing it in september so maybe not always correct to presume its been a problem bike?

Are yes, but a Triumph Tiger is not a GSLC... Many of which have been rejected and replaced for all manner of reasons..

You'll never get the true picture, but if I was guessing it's a fair few judging by the threads on here
If I was buying I would buy from a BMW dealer & take a long test ride 3+ hours on all roads
Secondly I would ask for a print out of everything that has been done to the bike I was thinking of buying

Exactly.:thumb

You need to take things on here with a pinch of salt. Yes there have been a few problems with gearboxes but these will have been fixed under warranty by now. But they are brilliant bikes. The major rants on here are about gearboxes and some poor finish around the engine and drive shaft, but remember a forum like this is often where you only hear about the negatives. No matter what others say, the bike is a major move forward in GS engineering, but the proof will be, give it a try. I came from an 1150GS and couldn't see by it for years, until I tried the 1200WC, wow! Drove it down to Garmisch in the summer after its first service around 2200 miles and not one problem, sublime in fact. There were over 100 bikes from the UK and the vast majority were the new 1200's and not one had any problems, the only bike requiring any fixing was a 1200 hex head GS. :aidan:aidan

How many have been rejected or replaced and why? Deal in facts not fiction

If you followed the thread you would have realised the following:
• The OP was asking for any known issues, which I’m sad to say there are plenty. (FACT)
• I helpfully suggested that the OP enquire as to whether or not the bike had been rejected by the previous owner as some have been. (FACT)
• another poster suggested that he would be happy to buy a bike that had been rejected and rectified (OPINION)
• i stated that i would not be happy to buy a rejected and rectified bike any more then i would be happy to buy a crash damaged bike for a premium price. (OPINION)
• Another poster points out his Triumph is 1 year old and being traded in through no fault of the bike, therefore suggesting that not all new trade ins are rejected... (FACT) i merely pointed out that Triumphs are not LC's (FACT) and that some LC's have been rejected and replaced by the manufacturer....(FACT)

:P

Here is a question for you all is a normal GS but speced to TE level worth the same as a actual TE or is it only worth what a normal bike is and what would people think the difference in price should be???
