Has anyone used these pads on their 1200

have read the horror stories, but thought i would buy them anyway at £20 for 2 sets and a set of Kyoto for the rear at £7

wasnt going to buy Geninue BMW as they warmed up too slowly for me, mediocre initial bite when riding on the brakes in London traffic, 2 finger braking leading to trapped fingers on the first hard brake

the new pads work for me, realise the discs will get mullered quickly

anyone else used them

I wouldn't touch goldfren with yours, nuf said! Worst pads you could buy and be warned it will take a fair distance before you get any brakes at all in the cold/wet and then they will jam on because you have panicked and gave a big hand full. Honestly take them back if you can.

ta for the reply

may I ask is the above based on 1st hand experience on the 1200

First hand yes but admittedly not on a 1200. I stupidly put them on my TDM and took them out a 1000 miles later. I was commuting along a motorway at the time and I literally couldn't stop at the end of it when it was wet/cold. Same driving in town unless I trailed the brakes to keep them warm. They actually felt ok in the dry but here in Edinburgh that doesn't happen in the winter.

Of all the areas to skimp on, is it really worth saving a fiver on brakes???

Spot on Miff:thumb

I use Ferodo's from Steptoe of this parish and the front brakes are very strong at all time's on my 56 plate non ABS GSA:thumb

Would have to agree with you Miff. I have the stock BMW pads in mine purely because I haven't had to change them yet. I actually find them pretty good and also very consistent whatever the weather conditions.

I bought a pair of Goldfren so called HH pads for my RS.

When I received them they were AH which are for scooter and the like.

Called the guy and he assured me thatthey were the real thing.

Bollox to that, sent them back and bought EBC HH from Slimbo.

If their off e-bay have a close look at the picture and packaging.

did a bit of websearch, learnt also that goldfren are made in the czech republic

if they are shit on the 1200, then i will be the first to say

in the dry in town they are more than adequate and i prefer them to oem

when the rain and cold temperatures come maybe the shortcomings will be obvious and i regret the purchase

has anyone ever tried them on the 1200,

I won't sell them in spite of the massive mark up possible.

They used to be badged as Newfren, the reputation was so bad they changed the name to goldfren and lowered the trade price so dealers would sell them.

Try a search for goldfren and see what's been said previously

Yep, I put them in a 1200

Bought them on Ebay for very little.
Fitted them all round.
Went round France & Switzerland on them.
What do I think?
Different feel from the originals. On a servo bike, there is a slight increase in "squeeze" required.
What do I think soo far?
They are ok. I don't rave about them, but I don't think theyr'e terrible either.
No problems on fast descents of Swiss passes.
Would I buy again?
Tell you next year when I have have more miles on them. Really, it comes down to economics, and, with only 4,500 miles on them, it's too early to tell.
the original front pads did 30,000, so I will make a comparison on wear rates next year.
Probaly easier to compare the rears. No matter what I install, I always have to replace along with rear tyre.
Myke

Goldfren are utter rubbish. Had them on my Blackbird took them off after I nearly failed to stop at bottom of my drive one cold morning.

made of wood, crap, i stopped sellin em in the shop, seen kyoto pads seperating from the metal regular too, (although seen it on better pads too, )
if your not happy wi bmw pads, i think that you wont be happy wi these, bmw pads are very good, is there something wrong with your brakes elsewhere , or you have a weak grip?
goldfrenn, save twenty quid or so, thats pennys per week you have saved over the life of the pads,,
i mean, really, down to economics and penny pinching on your brakes,,, if u cant afford it, buy a cheaper bit of transport, theres no excuse for cheap brakes/tyres etc, the price difference is not that big.............
ok its good to try new stuff, but when you search and theres more negs than plus,s, doesnt that speak to you?

you only die once, use the cheapest,im wi steptoe, they only sell cos traders make a good mark up on them,,better than other pads
