Goldwing…….nearly

I probably out to come out from the shadows and admit that it was me that bought Steve's 'wing.

I thought I'd keep quiet to start with as the last big, expensive bike that I bought and talked about on here was gone within a week (didn't get on with it), so thought I'd just make sure that the Goldwing hung around a bit longer before coming out, so to speak.

So far I've only managed to cover about 700 miles on the bike, so am still getting used to it, as it's definitely not a bike you become at one with immediately. Or to put it another way, I'm still finding low speed manoeuvring, especially around town and at junctions, more than a little terrifying. But I'm persevering.

Other than riding it, I've done little other than change over the battery tender cable, fit the raised passenger grab handles and the additional USB cable in the near side pannier (5-10 minute job if you ignore Honda's instructions). I'm still to master getting Android Auto to connect reliably, but I'm sure I'll get there at some point. When it is working, operating the interface on the move using the buttons rather than having a touchscreen is a bit distracting, and the button for the stupendously good horn has been hit by accident a couple of times :).

But I'll get there. Fuel consumption is remarkably good, as I've averaged about 56mpg overall. I've mostly been cruising in a mature manner but quite a lot of that has been about town, so nearly twice what I get from my R80!

The other good news is that I've managed to get the missus on the back (she's even bought a new jacket and helmet) and been out together half a dozen times or so. We're booked to go to France on it later this year so I'll see how that goes. The purchase was so I could get her out riding with me, so hopefully that will go well.

So anyway, it was me.

If you remember.
Cash waiting.
Enjoy the new bike.

Good to know it’s worked getting the boss out with you. You’ll enjoy a tour, there’s nothing better for covering miles.
Mind you, I was in the dealers today and saw this years model. The colours are :barf

I didn't mention that none of the trips with her on the back have been more than a mile and a half - taking her to work and picking her up, but it's a start.

And she likes that her helmet and jacket have matching colours, so what can go wrong?

BTW, I reckon the colours on the non-tour work a lot better and I love the battleship grey (or whatever it's called)

Did Steve tell you that rear seat on his old bike is actually a commode ? 😜

Actually, I’ll have you know it’s a HEATED commode. Not like the poor people’s model

The missus says that every heated seat makes her feel like she's wet herself.

At least I can blame it on the seat rather than my late braking!

I’ve added a farkle.
Even more comfort in summer and a heated arse in winter

was looking at honda something else yesterday and noticed the diff in price between std and the tour

apart from the screen and the box on the back what else is different

The Gold Wing Tour is the fully-loaded, ultimate touring version, adding a trunk (top box), taller screen, more speakers (four vs. two), selectable torque control, electronic suspension adjustment, heated seats, and fog lights, compared to the lighter, more minimalist Bagger (standard), which relies on manual suspension adjustments and lacks those premium features but offers a slightly more agile feel with its lower weight and no trunk.

Primarily the suspension - manual adjustment on the bagger, but available electronically from the dash on the tour bikes.

IIRC they are all DCT in the UK market now, with airbag only on the tour. Some dealers have been adding an OE top box & tour screen to the baggers, presumably to shift static inventory.
