Following on frm Dakman's thread - i live in the same neck of the woods (Muswell Hill) and my 1150GS was stolen last night from outside my house.

Black standard 1150GS (X reg) with HID headlight and vario-screen

I loved that bike.

My wife woke to the sound of my Remus kicking off. By the time she got to the window he was off. I drove around the area for a while as I knew there wasn't much petrol in the tank and wife said she didn't think he had a helmet on. Nothing doing.

If you live in the area it might be worth slapping an extra couple of chains on.

My security was a moronic blind faith that nobody would want to nick a 5 year old bmw.

Man... It's a gut wrenching feeling. Yesterday was my 40th birthday, and even a trip on the orient express didn't help to lift my mood too much. I've got my fingers, legs and eyes crossed hoping that they both turn up.

this really sucks there seems to be a spate of BMW thefts lately what the hells going on

20,000 miles you say you have to really click with a bike to do that many miles on it .
there is somthing about the GS that just makes you want to ride.... all the time and ive never had that with any other bike i owned

i hope you get it back mate and if not i hope you find a good replacement

That's crap - it takes ages to get a bike just how you want it, and no matter what the insurance bods do, they can't replace THAT bike. I know how gutted I'd be if anything happened to my airhead after even just a couple of weeks with it, let alone 20k.

Really hope you get it back, and that the sods who took it get what they deserve. Might have been a good thing you didn't catch them...

I always thought these bikes as not being in the 'line of fire' as far as thieving b4stards go, sure I saw some stats somewhere backing this up.
There are only a few reasons why a bike gets stolen, to be used as a getaway, to have identity changed and either run or sold, or broken up for spares, usually because a damaged repairable has been purchased by somebody and they need parts to bring their DR back to spec.
Therefore a viscious spiral starts, a bike gets damaged (road accident or third party incident), insurance pays out or owner sells, the machine becomes available cheap as damaged repairable salvage, somebody buys, the need for cheap spares to conduct a repair arises and some people start to knock bikes off to supply this new demand.
GSXRs or Blades these bikes are not so no drug runners or blingo's will be interested. My money is on the 'broke for spares to supply demand theory'.
It is nevertheless a terrible story to hear, that similartype of people to myself have had their pride and joy stolen.
The only reason I wouldn't want you to get it back is if the snake's scr0te that nicked it has a sudden stop, whilst travelling at speed, into one of those dodgy waste skips that are never illuminated correctly.
I wouldn't want a bike back after a tvvat had nicked it, take the pay out and up grade, if you can find a new friend.

Really sorry to hear you have had your bike pinched.
Have you tried this. I went to a police riding thing the other week and they recon that bikes that are chained together by their padlocks and chains are hardly ever nicked. They recon that the fact that the locks are unstable makes them very difficult to smash. It also puts of people with two legnths of scoffolding to help releave you of your pride and joy.
try chatting to a neighbour and locking your bikes together (just through the chains not bike to bike) in future. And dont tell the insurance company what you did (or didnt do) to secure your bike they will wriggle like eels.

Damn.. That really sucks. So sorry to hear this. I've had two bikes stolen over the years (a GPz 750 in '91 and a ZX6R in '03) so I know how you feel.

What was the full registration? I commute through London each day on my bike and do quite a bit of visiting of clients around North London (one actually in Muswell Hill) so I'd like to keep an eye out for it. A long shot, but you never know...

Atropos makes a good point, and destinctive marks rather as well as an index number, who knows one of us might spot it. Dents scratches, scuffs stuff like that.

I feel a bit wierd about giving the full registration just in case the rozzers find it or the registration is cloned while I'm still the registered owner. Not sure i fully understand the risks with this kind of thing.

It's a standard, X-reg black 1150 GS. No real distinguishing features apart from vario screen and HID headlight, oh and a low seat.
