Good after market shocks

Must have bottomed out to crack the casting:augie

It bottomed out when the pre load blew damaging the bottom bolt, eventually the bolt snaps which to be fair both bikes did, just that mine didn't break the casting:)

hyperpro (similar to wilbers and very well rated)
yacugar (hear lot very very good this lately about these)

yacugar are building up a huge following on advrider.
FWIF, I've just bought a pair of Yacugar progressive springs and they seem to be exactly the same as Hyperpro, even carried the identical part number.

R

PS. And very good they are too.

Another kind of sideways compliment for ABE from me.

I recently bought a second hand 1150 front shock which, last week, I sent to ABE for a refurb. They called me on Friday to say that it wasn't worth spending the money on it (needed a rechromed damper rod, full seal set and repairs to the spring platform). He said although he was doing himself out of business, he would spend the money on a better second hand shock - said it was one of the worst GS fronts he'd seen :blast

So, after writing off the £50 + postage to ABE I spent on the second hand shock, I've just shelled out for a new Hyperpro front to go with my recent Hyperpro rear (couldn't risk the time trying to find another second hand one to get refurbed - away on holiday on the bike in a few weeks). I can't really afford it and I couldn't stretch to the custom weight compensation I got for the rear, but there you go - should have gone for the new option in the first place

I'm not doing anything until next spring now, but even with my narrow knowledge about shocks I'm inclined to agree that ohlins main area of expertise
Is in performance before strength and longevity maybe.

What's the thoughts on just re springing my BMW shocks ? Any gain or would I need to get them rebuilt or tuned up in someways ?

Personally, I'd get them refurbished (new seals, oil & regassed) at the same time as respringing them. About £100 per shock + the cost of the spring (if the damper rod is ok and doesn't need rechroming).
