Good pillion seat?

Is it me or are the standard seats plank like?
Mrs W and I travel some considerable mileage at times and love everything about the ride other than our inability to walk afterwards. I am looking to invest if you will on some bum pampering and was pointed towards Sergeant Seats uk.
Now we have looked at the site and recovered after seeing the price (with heat to the pillion) I wondered if I may or may not get opinions as to it being worth the money spent. Will the seat enable us to cover distance in more comfort for longer? Nothing will enable "all day comfort" I am sure, but who knows?
What say you?

I use a Sergeant, do some big mileages in all weathers and can throughly recommend them. They are a bit weird at first but they bed in well. The standard seats are straight from a torture chamber!!

Try a sheepskin to start as this makes a huge difference and will only cost you a few quid. I've got an Alaska butt pad for the really big hits and they do improve matters a lot.
 
I've just fitted a sergeant and I'm now a convert. It's like one of those old school tractor seats but padded. Should have done this year's ago
 
Been using a Sergeant seat on the GS and now the same seat on the 90th anniversary GSA, for the last two years as said above a bit weird at first but then all day comfort any distance. Worth the money if your doing big days in the saddle.

I used to think the standard seat was ok until I switched from leathers to textiles and then my arse hurt like hell after a hundred miles or so
Put a sargent on and was good for 400 mile days easy
Funnily enough the LC adv is pretty good as standard
 
To temper the positive remarks with which I completely agree, from riders I only once carried a pillion on my twin cam when it was fitted with Sargent seats front and rear. That was my 6 foot, 14 stone son and he was less than complimentary about the seat. To put it in context, he's been riding for several years, had previously owned an '09 GS and now has his own LC. I didn't have a top box fitted on the bike but he said that the Sargent seat encouraged him to fall off the back of the bike under acceleration much more than the standard seat did, both due to the front of the seat being raised and the cover was more slippery in comparison with the standard pillion seat.

Suffice to say he wasn't quite so happy as this when he got off. As ever, YMMV.

Sargent seats take a while (in my case a couple of 2 or 3 hour rides) to break-in/get used to but they are all-day comfortable after that. Try to borrow one for a while - judging it by just sitting on one will give a false impression.

Funnily enough Susan did not like the sargent for much the same reasons
I had the low version and she claimed it but her too high up and although more comfortable left her feeling more precarious.
Obviously I ignored her !
 
I prefer the Kahedo's to Sargeant, but it's all down to personal preference, I had the rider and pillion LDC seat's on my GSA and the pillion, in this case my then 11 year old son, was happy enough with the comfort on a trip through Germany and eastern europe.

Expensive new, if you buy from TT UK, but get them from Germany and save a small fortune, or keep an eye out here as they pop up every now and again. The only reason I prefered the Kahedo's to the Sargeants btw, was because of the way the Sargeant held you in the seat, a bit like sitting in a spoon, it just did not work for me.
 
I wouldn't be without my Sargeant seat, Sarah, on the other hand wouldn't thank you for another after I suggested she try one on my old RT - she much prefers the standard BMW seats.
 
I found the standard GS seat dug into my coccyx and standard GSA is like a very tall plank. Sargent never got road tested because the edge dug into my leg. The Kahedo was right from day one.
