I've just been given the go ahead to disappear for a few days next week.

I had intended to visit Scotland again, but then thought - what about Wales? Never been to this far off land, but have heard wonderful stories.

So I intend to be trawling through these pages with my friend 'Search', but also thought I'd take the lazy route and simply ask this font of knowledge.

I'll be camping, travelling on the GS and looking for some interesting rides, on small roads as far as possible. I want to view the world, rather than let it race past, so if you can suggest an 'must do' roads, then please let me know. If there are any mapsource routes, then they'd also be useful, but I'm happy to sort out my own.

So I'm looking for suggestions for small interesting roads, round beautiful scenery. I have no real experience of anything off-road and have standard Tourance tyres, so don't expect to be straying from the tarmac to the mud, but would be happy with rough and ready roads (gravel, broken tarmac etc).

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

Cheers

Brecon - Upper Chapel - Garth - Newbridge-on-Wye - Rhyader - B4518 - Llanidloes - B4518 - Staylittle - Llanbrynmair - Pandy - Left on A458 to Mallwydd - Right on A470 to Dinas Mawddwy - As you enter Dinas Mawddwy bear right off the A470 and look for sign to Llanmawddwy-Lake Vyrnwy-Bala.

Have a look on Mapsource its fairly straight forward.

Enjoy

I've added some routes I've done previously

Wot he said, saying that watch out for them low flying birds in the bushes by pandy :D:D the first bike startles em and the second bike has to take avoidance measures :D :augie

Yes ... it's the bloody pheasant season again. They'll lure you into a false sense of security. Plucker #1 sets you up annd then Plucker #2 jumps off the wall and flies up just enough to catch the screen and bounce off your helmet.
B'Stards. I mean they deserve shooting really. But why do they breed so many in the first place ????

Thanks for the suggestions guys,

I've got a garmin quest - so mapsource routes are fantatsic.

I'll take a look in detail tomorrow, as I've got myself a map today (belt & braces).

If there's any more suggestions, then keep em coming. I hope to do as much (GS) biking as I can, with an aim to potentially return in the future with mountain bike. So the more scenic and remote the better.

Cheers guys:thumb:thumb:thumb

:thumb2 to Elan Valley, the A483 from Newtown to Crossgates is one of the best stretches of tarmac in the UK, bit open and fast in places but the Newtown end should be good on a GS.

General tour round the Snowdonia area is well worth a visit, also the coast road South of Abertstwyth.

There's lots to choose from, Oh and its getting wet so be prepared :D

And not forgetting the Llanrwst - Abergele Road, which gets a mention in the MCN as a top biker road. I have been riding this road since I was 18, even 30 years on I still enjoy it. :roll:roll
