Finished, for now....

So, Yamaha panniers have gone on, simply because CMC dropped the price to a point it would have been rude to refuse.
Also, and with thanks to Spyke of this parish for the pointer to Paul B, it now has a Yamaha higher touring screen and Yamaha winglets as well.
Now, to finish running it in.....:D
 
Now the expense starts

They are just as easy to decorate as GSs, Trumpets, Christmas trees...

Clutch switch mod can be achieved with a large paperclip. Very simply, you are just shorting the two wires by pushing a paperclip into the the backside of the clutch swith plug (under the clutch lever). I am making it sound more complicated that it actually is.

Lots of people have done elaborate installs of seperate switches to allow them switch on/off the mod. I am not sure it makes a huge difference but it only cost me a paperclip!

How much did the WC side panels and fork guards cost? They look cool.

I only used half the stickers in the WC pack, but at £50 for the lot it would cost a lot more to buy half of them.

Plus some of them are to go on the WC bits, so if you only buy the sticker kit your gonna have to spend the other £950 to have somewhere to put them all - or at least that's what you can tell your Mrs, she would not want you wasting £25 of stickers now would she :D


A note on the clutch mod, it does some odd things to ignition timing, worth having a switch to turn it on when around town / in tight stuff as at high revs it can cause detonation, never noticed any with mine, but worth bearing in mind.

£350 for the Flash was worth it IMO as it does so much more to improve throttle response, smoothness and fuel consumption - and without any negative side effects.
 
Riding lights ?

First service done at the weekend, I can start stretching its legs now :thumb2

Anyone recommend a supplier of riding lights ? I'm leaving towards Givi S310's......

After a number of Herr BMW's finest, i have to say i really like this Sake Special. :D

The S310's are on my list to get, bit pricey but supposed to be very good.
 
So, did i miss anything ?

So, errrr, it's been a while....
Life rather got in the way of riding over the last year and a half. A very poorly wife, now hopefully with the shadow of the big C receding to just a bad memory, i hope to pull the S10 out and get a bit more use out of it. It's approaching 2 years old and only has 1600 miles on it !
At least a house move from Mansfield to New Mills in the High Peak means great roads are just a couple of minutes away.
Oil's been changed. The tanks full. Subscription to this site renewed. Bring it on.:thumb
 
Nice to hear things are looking up (sometimes life's a bitch), i read the thread from the start and thought that you were going to say you had sold the bike because CMC have a lovely black S10 on the floor (not as pretty as yours) now with loads of goodies on including driving lights, glad its not yours and that you are now able to put some miles on the clock.

Sounds great, just in time for spring :thumb

I had my ECU custom mapped last Saturday so cannot wait to get out somewhere decent to test it, for me great roads are a couple of hours away :mad: But I can de-stress OK with a run around Cotswold lanes that are on the doorstep.

is it rude of me to ask what you finally paid, I am about to buy a set from the dealer I bought the bike from he's offered some discount but wondered if more might be available ?

ZED, struggling to recall now, but it was about £100 off retail for the pair with the required additional brackets. Even at that price, looking back, not worth the money for the size of them. I would go aluminium given the choice again. And don't even get me started on the topbox........

I wouldn't change the bike tho !

That's about the same discount I have been offered.
could I ask a favour from you if are willing at some point to run a tape across the full width and let me have the measurement.

copied this over from another thread which you might have read, this explains why I don't have a need for large capacity aluminium boxes.

I see what you mean about the extra volume, 90% of my touring is two up with my wife, but luckily I don't have to worry about space because the bike and as much gear as we want to carry gets to our holiday destination in the back of a van, we then do our touring from a central base with the occasional night spent in hotels for longer routes before returning to the accommodation to collect the van, toured this way for several years it works fine for us, no wet 300-400 mile boring motorway days on the bike followed by the same the next day, 2 wasted days getting to the Alps or wherever we are heading, in fact a couple of years ago we did Lake Como to home nearly 900 miles door to door in 1 day in the van, also did the same from the southern Black Forest to home in 1 day in the van, I could not have faced either journey on the bike in 1 day, think that would be almost impossible without a pillion let alone 2 up with luggage, we hate motorway miles on the bike but don't mind in the van.
so my need for panniers is for a maximum 2-3 nights gear plus we have a roll bag on the rear rack for extra gear if needed, I also tend to leave the panniers on fulltime, we seem to carry a few bits with us even on short local trips, hence I prefer a narrower setup.
