Hi guys , I have the Motorrrad V nav on the RT, and prefer plotting maps in Google. Does anyone know a way to transfer over from one to the other ?

thanks in advance

If you have a Nav V, the chances are you'll be using BaseCamp.

Have a go with:

Very useful....should be in GPS bit not tucked away in an obscure seldom visited bit.....

Although the method that Wapping linked to does work the selection of the remaining way-points isn't done in an intelligent manner, just average distance (unless they've recently updated the algorithm). I find it serves me better by just tracing over the track with another route selecting the points I want rather than those arbitrarily selected by Basecamp.

The alternative to all this, if you prefer plotting using Google Maps, is to use ITN Converter or TYRE. Of course, these are PC only so if you are using a Mac then you'll need to find another way. The above are both capable of producing the GPX file that your Garmin needs.

Moving a GPX route to your GPS can be done by plugging you GPS into your computer via USB and moving the GPX file to Garmin/GPX/ on the internal memory. You can also create the same directory on your SD card. I'm making the assumption that the Nav5 works the same way as the Zumo and Nuvi ranges in this respect.

hi bumpkin , yes on on an apple mac.....great info above though and yes the nav 5 uses basecamp ...i will give it a go later, thankyou for the replies

Let us know how you get on Dave if you use the method shown in the video, from Googlemaps, to BaseCamp on a Mac.

I don't use Googlemaps for plotting routes but there are plenty that do. If it works as well as Mr Awesome Route suggests it does in his video, it might be just the thing Mac and Garmin map users have been looking for.

There is now a thread on the same subject over in the GPS section, which will save disturbing the RT owners from their slumbers and their dreaming of the new WC version.
