GoPro's, which one to choose

The Silver Edition is $299 here (190 pounds) and shipping to the UK runs about $20.
If anyone wants one, I'll buy one and mail it over to you.

The Black goes fro $399, but I don't think it's really worth the extra $$ over the Silver.

Mark, I'm in the USA for Feb & could carry one back if you get it shipped to my brothers place - it might spare a big customs bill. PM me if you are interested.

The retail store, Best Buy, has them. If you are near one. Prices seem to be the same for them just about everywhere, but stock is hard to find at times.
I can find one now and ship to your brothers if needed.

Do you have a price on a white one? Cheers

White - $199
Silver - $299
Black - $399

I don;t know if the Hero HD2 is still around or not - but it's pretty much like the White version. I'd go for the Silver on - which I own - if I was going to get one. The Black has some high end stuff I'll never use and a 12 MP still camera versus the Silver's 11 MP. Black also comes with the wifi remote control - which I don't use as I have the iPhone app. But if you want the control, it's around $75.

Gents, thanks a mil, i am waiting on a few emails back here and i will make a decision over next few days, thanks guys

Has anyone tried these? The camera is built into the goggles so you know it's pointing in the right direction. Might be a problem when using a visor and also means you don't have the ability to position the camera in a variety of places on the bike like you would with a Gopro, but you do have the advantage of not having something sticking out of your helmet that might get hit by a branch, etc.

I recently bought the GO PRO ii here in DUblin from argo @ 265.00 euro.

Still aint used it but plan to...

Was a bargain at that price. Cam with the leads, moounts etc. well worth it.

Sticking with the theme I recently bought and used my new Go Pro but need advice on the best video editing programme for idiots. Can someone reccomend something very basic and easy to use ??

Not for the first time, this site has cost me money. And if it doesn't stop soon I may have to leave.

Having had the idea of the go pro suggested to my subconscious, I found myself walking past Conns Cameras today. Haven't been past there in months. The draw was irresistible and I was dragged in by a force no mortal could fight. €449 later I left with the black go pro. I was robbed, its not even black, just the bloody box is.

Seriously though, lovely piece of kit, had intended to get one for the alps trip this summer but hadn't planned on doing it today.

Basically
White version - same camera spec as original GoPro Hero : €249
Silver version - same camera spec as GoPro2 : €349
Black version - higher spec camera, better low light (will never have the need or skill to use it a so obviously I bought it) comes with wifi remote control (€99 if sold separately): €449

All now have wifi, so eg GoPro2+wifi= GoPro3 Silver

My take was that the white is perfectly fine for basic use. If you are interested in silver, the question is do you want a remote, if so then Black is the answer.

Now, mounting suggestions please?

Here is what comes in the box

Both are at 25FPS with the lens set to extra wide.

These were taken with the camera balanced on the dash so there is shake. The lens was also pointed a bit high and so is picking up too much sky, causing the video to be a bit dark.

Main differences between the three models as far as I can make it out are:

Black has better low light capabilities - Probably not a benefit for motorcycle use
Black has 4K cinema mode - utterly pointless as nothing can currently play that format.

Max frame rate at 1080 White:30FPS Silver:30FPS Black:60FPS
This is probably useful for high speed recording but, you can get to 60FPS on the White by going to 720 mode.

Field of view: Black and Silver have options of Ultra Wide, Medium and Narrow. White has medium only. For motorcycle use, medium is probably the most useful.

Photo: White 5MP, Silver 11MP, Black 12MP

Burst mode max speed: White 3/sec Silver 10/sec Black 30/sec

Black has two additional facilities:
Continuous mode - probably not very useful
Simultaneous Picture and video (at 5-60 sec intervals)- Quite useful I think

The Silver comes with an additional mount.
The Black comes with several additional mount brackets and the Remote Control.

You can control all three with a phone over wifi connection. It gives a small image (with a serious time delay) on the phone to help set up the camera. settings are best done via the phone app.

If you want to mount the camera on the crash bars (out of reach) then the remote control with its big buttons and (optional) bar mount kit may be a good option.

i have a hero and recently added the hero 3 black to the armoury.

i was really looking at the silver to match or better the hero 1. however, i paid the extra and went for the black, with this u get the remote included (£70 to buy separately) and its nice to get 1080p in 60fps for slow mo. also photos are a little better.

One nice feature new on the hero 3, (not sure if the white and silver do this) is that when filming in 1080p 30fps, you can set the camera to take a 14mp photo every x seconds. So u get some good photos aswell as videos.

I started with sony vegas platinum HD for £70 on the pc. I recently bought a mac book pro for the wife, and have since moved over to final cut pro 10.8. Its relatively easy to use, and there are loads of tutorials on youtube for this program, aswell as walkthrus etc.

My first video using fcp was uploaded the other day of us canyoning.

SONY

Just got the Sony HDR-AS15 260EU (about 220stg) . Controllable from smart(ish) phone and can mount on side of helmet not on top like the Klangers. A bit neater than the go pro and excellent performance.
