Peter, can we get the pens directly rather than going to a dealer, would be good to be able to just order via website etc.

As for replacing the zip, not an easy thing to do when it's sown into the jacket. Can the zip slider be easily replaced at home?

we would strongly recommend not to replace the GORE® LOCKOUT™ Closure by yourself, because there is a risk, that you will be damaging the rail. Your local shop dealer will send your garment to a Repair Centre free of charge, where the corresponding parts will be replaced.

Alternatively, you could send me your phone number per PM, thus we will be able to coordinate the shipment of the garment with the Repair Centre directly. If you give us your address in addition, we will send you a silicon marker as well.

Every GORE-TEX® Garment comes with a silicone oil marker. You will get this marker for free from your local dealer, if you don`t have one, yet. Please make sure to lubricate the rails with this marker regularly to make them run smooth and easy.
Moreover we are improving and testing the technology and design constantly since the introduction of the GORE® LOCKOUT™ Closure technology in the beginning of this year.
In case that yours is broken, you can return the product and get a new one free of charge from your dealer. Our partners have been informed about the known issues and are briefed to give you further support on this.

My Klim suit, bought in April 09, has the 'Lockout' zips.

I had a slight problem with one of the zips not locking properly, which I cured with a tiny bit of washing up liquid from the kitchen of a bar in Germany. I never gave it much more thought.

Unexpectedly, I received my silicone oil pen through the post about three or more months ago from the original dealer, with no prompting. Good service.

After several thousand miles, it is a good zip.

Incidentally, I have bought an Arcteryx winter coat a few weeks ago, with lots of good quality YKK regular zippers all over it. Well, I had to lubricate all of them with silicone because they were a bit stiff. Now they glide like hockey skates on a freshly scrubbed and sprinkled, or Zambonied, for the initiated, ice rink. So, it's not unique to the Gore-Lockout system.

Hi,


I got an Edison suit as warranty replacement for my previous generation SRO suit.

It has the Lockout mechansim on it as well, but it runs from bottom left to top right.

I'm left handed.

No matter what I did (left or right handed) pulling straight or to one side, the lockout consistently 'opened up' about 5mm above the lock every time I went out on the bike (72 mile round trip on the commute), leaving me with a damp tummy.

It was always still attached to the base part, it looks like the lockout could not withstand tight radius curves, without peeling open, but if I zip it up on the hanger I can't get it to peel apart.

Rukka are picking it up tomorrow to take back in case I got a broken one, but it's hard to see how it could be broke.

I've got a photo, but I can't seem to upload it, can you only do links here?

Any ideas about the gard unraveling?

Funny thing happened at the NEC Bike Show. Tried on a jacket , Rukka agent help me with the zip. When I tried to take it off , the zip got stuck. He undid the bottom than pulled the two sides apart. I than pulled the jacket over my head. What a comedy that was in front of some prospective customers. Cant remember which jacket it was , but it was short with the zip running across the chest. It was over £1k.

Hi,

I had to give up on the lockout.

It went back to rukka for a new lockout - still failed.

Bikerland in Germany have been really good over the whole thing.

I've now got a anatomic (red piping: bit like the nanosuit in Crysis in 'Maximum Strenght' mode)

It has a double zip, and just works.

Bikerland now have one other rider who has the same issue (jacket opens when lockout is in a tight radius curve subjected to lateral stress).

Shame really, I would have prefered for the whole thing just to have worked.

But I'm happy now.

I had a master V jacket which was great, until it started to fade to a nice shade of purple....

So my local friendly Hein Gericke manager contacted Gore about the problem... and it turns out that the jacket was sprayed with something or other which reacted with other treatments....

Result was I was supplied with a new Gore Lockout Master V courtesy of Gore

Now I appreciate the customer service, but now I wish I'd been offered a direct replacement with one of the old models with a zip....

The lockout needs particular care to do up properly , and 3 or 4 times out of 10 it seems to come undone from the bottom when I do it up

It is totally waterproof though, but so was the original Master V

I bought a new HG jacket with the Gore Lockout last year and it is driving me to distraction. The tag came off quite early on and while that isn't right, it's pretty much par for the course for HG kit! The 'zip' just snags so often now and I have to go through various contortions to release it.

I've just seen this thread and e-mailed my local HG shop to ask what they can do to help. At the very least, some of that silicone lube would help.

Failing that, I think I may just have to ditch the jacket and buy another one. Given that my old HG Master jacket lasted over 5 years before I retired it, that's going to be a pain. If I do that, I don't think I will be buying HG kit again.

Anyway, my advice would be to steer well clear of the Gore Lockouts!

bah... I was starting to put some money aside for a new Master V as the lowered price is here for 2011. Looks like I'll be sticking with my 18month, daily used, tatty, zipped version until it falls apart. At least I know zips won't suddenly fail.

note to GoreTex: can you please give up on the lockout stuff, its not working is it when compared to a simple, cheaper double zip....

Did a little lateral thinking when I got home last night (and finished fighting with the jacket) ...

Furniture polish has silicone in it so I sprayed some on a cloth and wiped it onto the Lockout rails. Guess what? The whole thing now works smoother than a very smooth thing!

No idea how long it will last before it needs a reapplication, but it is progress of some kind. (Normal own brand stuff was used and there are no unsightly marks left on the jacket.)

Still waiting to see if HG will reply to my e-mail and offer something.

ps I'd still just go for a conventional zip in future!

I believe that if you go into any Rukka stockist with a rukka suit they'll give you one of the silicon pens for free, I wonder if the HG stores are the same as it's a Gore promotion.

Had a bit of grief with my lockouts - silicon pen does sort it, I can get about 2-3 months before it needs doing again it seems, but in dusty conditions, that reduces down a bit obviously.

Wapping, have you cleaned your Klim Suit at all? If you did, how did it fare? Could do to give mine a wash, had it 13 months now and it could do with it I think, but I'm worried about it losing waterproof-ness

I didnt put mine in the wash but scrubed down the outside with soapy water and a soft nail brush, rinsed it down and then left it to dry in the sun, havent had any problems with it being waterproof since, I used soap flakes for wool "dreft" I think rather than washing powder with chemicals in.

Love the suit but the bloodly lockout system is just crap, I would put up with better zip less waterproof. Mine the tag broke off within a week, I just replaced it with a ring from a key shop, to be fair Gore have offered to replace the zip pull but to be honest I cant afford to be with out the jacket for the two weeks required and to be honest it will only break again so the key ring is fine for me.
I get the impression that it is Gore that are insisting that the produces of kit use the system with the latest version of goretex, its a shame that its just such a pice of crap, i use mine daily and find that I need to lube the zip at least every two weeks or more if the weather is bad.

Cheers bowser, I hear avoiding soft fabric conditioner is the thing, that will just feck them right up apparently.

I use my gear daily, in all weathers for commuting etc., I dont have to re-silicon every two weeks though? Blimey, thats pretty often!

Forgot to add, I was told that Klim amended the stuff that makes up the ZipLocks just before release, and the change has meant the silicon is now required? Anyone else got info. on that?
