You might have a point there. Jackets never leaked on the GS.
And I was out on the GS on Sunday with my Alpinestars mesh jacket and didnt even get wet after getting caught in a heavy shower.
I got ex Dutch army breathable (not sure if its actually goretex) waterproof Camouflage jacket and trousers for Airsofting and found them excellent in heavy downpours and crawling through damp forests so probably be fine on the bike. I got them from Adventure 1 in Dundas Street in Glasgow for about £30-£40 for both. Clearwater Army & Navy Surplus Store in Argyle Street (Finneston end) were a good bit dearer at the time but might be worth checking out.

Ive an old Yamaha nylon over jacket, boil in the bag, but keeps you dry even in monsoon season.
Was going to check out the army surplus stores for a goretex over jacket to wear on top of my Alpinestars summer jacket.
I use army goretex jacket for trail riding...totally waterproof, windproof and breathable...keps me warm and thats important out in the wilds!!
in fact apart from tee shirt and body armour, all that is needed in all weather conditions.......my mates all take the piss, of course, in their "KTM" enduro suits bought at stupid money, claiming I look a twat in my action man camo!!!
not sure \i would wear it road riding tho....you are harder to see!!!!
IMHO the "breathability" is a marketing gimmick. How often have you got wet from sweating whilst sat on the bike? Not very often I'd guess, and you still get hot and sweaty with gore-tex, it just might be a little less after an hour or two compared to a non-breathable suit.
And if it's really humid outside, I'd guess you won't get much sweat passing through the gore-tex.
