Well,it`s a beautiful morning after yesterday`s atrocious weather on my birthday, and I`m glad I waited until today to pick up my brand new 1200GS ADV.
I got all the blingola as prezzies.....new carbon fibre look hugger, brand new Zumo, sheepskin seat cover and external oil and water bottles to bolt onto my panniers.
I also got a Haynes manual but I don`t think I`ll bother reading it.

Now then,some questions....

I`ve recently bought a matching latest version so called 'Twat Suit'
But why are they called that ??

I also bought a brand new Tour-X that I found isn`t very comfortable at high speed.
Should I wear it with the peak or without it ?

The bike is very big and heavy.
What is the best way to get on and off it?
On the centre stand or off it?

I spent a sleepless night last night...not because I`m so excited, but because I couldn`t think of anywhere to mount my new anodised tax disc holder.
Does anyone have any ideas of where to mount the tax disc holder...or maybe show me a picture ?

What sort of service costs and running costs can I expect ?

Is the bike likely to be reliable....?
I wouldn`t like to be stranded somewhere with a corroded front engine casing or a weep of oil from my rocker cover gasket or anything.

Hope you can help, and don`t mind my questions,it`s just all so different from my previous VFR and my GSXR.
But what a machine...it`s top of the range and fully loaded with AHD,TDC,BDC,sense of humour bypass and chip on the shoulder.

I hope Tarka old chap, that when you collect it you will have all the spot lights on and have the full Hi Viz version of the ubiquitous twat suit:D

.

A warm welcome Mr tarka.

You should have aquired the clymer manual, far more pages for you not to read, but plenty enough information for you to post answers to others technical questions.

Be careful with the oil you use, take no notice of the handbook, that will only lead to confusion. Best to ask the opinion of 10,000 owners.

have your platinum card ready for your dealer servicing. And fit some HID's so you'll always be sure of being seen. :thumb

If you can find a way of putting the bike ON the centre stand BEFORE you get OFF please let me know. Otherwise you've answered your own question.

April 1 maybe?

I must say that I find your curtness quite offensive...perhaps a case for a Moderator to intervene?
Quite naturally that situation you said would be the case, but I was wondering what would be the easiest way to get on the bike....and due to my excitement I was runing ahead of myself with pondering getting the beast onto its centre stand as well.

Thank you to the others for their sensible replies.
The oil comment was interesting,it appears that these manuals are being a bit obsessive about grades and types....after all,oil is oil isn`t it?
If my airline compressor can run all day and all week with no trouble surely my lower revving motorbike engine will be just fine on the same oil?
My mate reckons so,and he`s been meddling with bikes for years.

Congratulations on yer new 1200 Tarks. They're great bikes and those old Ural things are soooo last year.

In terms of getting on and off, it's pretty simple. Tarkatech are now selling these:

Don't worry.

Any problems and worries you have are covered by the warranty.

To answer your first question regarding the suit, look at the people who wear them and your answer will be forthcoming.

Mr Tarka !!
I'm surprised at you :tosser:eh
all these questions, and you've neglected the most important ones of all.:blast

Namely >>>

What pocket in my Twatsuit do I put my AA card into???
Also If I have a GOLD AA card does that allow me to ride first class [front seats] of recovery Vehicle ???

Welcome Tarkles,

yes - the clymer manual is the better one.
it's more absorbent - you put it under the Boike when parked.
it soaks up the oil leaks.
when sodden, merely light it and stand back and bask in the warm glow and heady toxic aroma of burning plastic.

and then get a decent Bike. :augie

Tarka, please make sure it will fit in your gate.

I am sure someone will nip out and photograph theirs if you ask, but pictures of your gate would be great, too.

Also, make sure it will fit in your shed or you might have to ask about turny-round things.

Don't forget the starry bolt key, too.

Enjoy the 1200 Experience :thumb2

Getting on and off the bike:- Side stand as it will sit lower and make life a whole lot easier. You get used to lifting it up off the side stand very quickly.

Helmet:- Try it without the peak and see what you think. In theory the peak will casue more drag at high speeds and make it more uncomfortable. Also try fitting a screen spoiler.

Tax disc holder:- Didn't you have one on your bike already, and therefore can't you just put it in the same place? Here's mine

Service costs:- Depends on your dealer and what you need doing. 1st service cost me £130, but others I beleive have paid over £200

Running costs:- A lot depends on how you ride. I cmooute through Sheffield which is very hilly, and stop start all the time. Still gettin about 42mpg. Oil usage on my bike is high though. Advised by BMW dealer to use 20-50 semi synthetic

Is it reliable? As reliable as any other bike imo, despite what a lot write on here. The older generation weren't too reliable but a lot of issues have been fixed.

And yes I'm fully aware this is probably a piss take, but ya never know some might actually find the answers useful

Looking at the calendar, I see you haven't asked whether or not you should park outside a hotel with or without bringing your panniers inside.

Nice post, though.

yers.... :mmmm
some may wish to bang their head off of it :banghead: when they spot the date. :augie

Especially Snerkler :augie

I`m almost torn between thanking him and publicly declaring him UKGSer prime Poisson d`Avril........but there`s really no choice is there?
He`s definately fishy. :D :D
Thanks Snerkler, you made it all worthwhile. :beerjug:

It`s past noon,now,so the fun has to stop................ ;)

Dayum - it's after noon! You haven't even mentioned the obligatory leaf blower to dry it yet:blast
