I want to have a look at the make up of a paralever drive shaft, and if it is feasible to replace the universal joints.
Having looked at a couple of engineering companie's efforts and the prices they are wanting for the job, I thought I may try and do the job myself..... so, I am after a donor shaft, it can be knackered as far as the universal joints are concerned.
What you got?

Timpo.

Timpo,

Have a go yourself, i think you are in the same line of work as myself so you should be ok.!!
That said, I wasnt succesful first time, it is a fiddly job. It is easy to collapse the outside race of the bearing. There is measurement for the distance between the outer "cups" when assembled, from memory it is 44mm. The O/D of the cups is 19mm, again from memory.
Beware when buying the bearings, there are two "types". One is the correct one, the other is made out of plasticine !!! !
I got mine from a place in Coventry, that can supply the good uns. (There is also place in Leeds that can also supply the crap ones, at half the price.Dont use em)
Ask Steve Scriminger if he has old shafts, im sure he will have.

Pm me or post on here if you want more info.
I will hunt down the name of the place in Coventy for you meanwhile

Good luck

Here you go

If you speak to the guy here, he does a lot work/races vintage bikes.
He will know exactly what ujoint you require.

If anyone else is watching this post, and your driveshaft is "donald ducked", you have no need to pay silly money for an exchange shaft at one of the normal BM "outlets".
Use the above guys, they will replace the ujoints, AND at a fraction of the cost.

No, I am not connected with them.

Good luck all
Safe weekend

I have one off at the moment with a race car Prep place, they say they can fit CV's to the front and rear. I have seen them and they are tiny things but good for over 140BHP Pats son uses them on his Race car, (not the tiny one's ) but the peeps who have the shaft ( one's ) :augie will find out who they are after new year. They are doing it as a fit in job as they may be able to start a new
product line from them, so mine may be a freebee:augie But as i say they are doing it in-between paying work...
Lyn.
PS: when they came to Tims garage the last time they measurred up the 100pd
had the shock off to move the wheel up and down and and also checked out the swing arm and other stuff....:D
