Got mine on Wednesday - what do I make first.................

And Nuts I'm not on any other forum (can't be arsed) so if you wanna do a post with some sort of link that would be good and would mean that whatever you send me doesn't have to be totally massive, just huge :)

Mate, that's a given.:thumb

Fanks Nuts.

Btw I`m not convinced that a blanking plate is needed - let me look into it with another solution and I will post some images. Actually got out on the XR today - can`t stop racing people............(ffs and at my age)

That's the trouble with the XR! I always say I'll take it easy, but that never happens!:D

Its truly fiendish Nuts. I`m kinda thinking a scottoiler is a good idea as I can`t see the chain lasting long? And, fekk me, the fuel consumption! It drinks it quicker than me.

If you're regularly going away for days at a time (like Wapping does :D), then a scotoiler would be worthwhile, but I'd rather just use regular chain lube, and take a can with me on the occasions I go away for a few days. Keep the weight down as well!:P

Thanks for your take on it Nuts, I don`t want to divert the thread from its main purpose (listening to what people think to parts for the XR which I might be able to do) but I appreciate your reply about the chain - I guess a spray after each day of use will do the job eh with a can for trips away. I never used to oil my chain for ages when I was a kid..................

But anyhooooo, am thinking that the rad cover and oil cooler cover might be in order but I`m undecided about the design. Don`t want it `not gorgeous to the eye` if I can avoid it but the GS covers, for instance, would simply be too much (busy) and too bloody expensive over such a size.

Guys (gals) any ideas...........................?

Fuel
It will settle down to a more acceptable level, Mine has gone from 35 unto 43 now i have learned a little restraint

As for the chain scottoilers are a pain in the arse, keep it clean and lubed it will be fine

I tend to give mine a squirt (A light one) after every decent ride (over 100 miles) I use PJ1 blue label.
I clean it when it looks dirty

Oil cooler and radiator guards, the OP's question.

They do not need to be heavy or heavy duty, that's for sure. In fact a lightweight plastic honeycomb would do providing the heat did not get to it. Some of them cable tie into position they are so light, though I am not a great fan of using that method, if only out of aesthetics. To give you an idea, Evotech's radiator guard is shown as 420 grammes and the separate oil cooler guard at 180 grammes.

Unfortunately I am not at home at the moment or I could post you one from R&G to show you what they are like.

I fitted an E Scottoiler on my XR, works a treat.

Modern chains are much stronger than their older counterparts, for sure. But, they still need a little TLC, too.

Don't get me wrong they do work provided you can faff about adjusting it and remembering to alter it when its raining

The thing I don't like is that after a days riding in the wet the chain gets no lube once you stop and what was on from riding will have gone thus leaving the chain un lubed and wet.

For me its no big deal to take a small can on a tour and give it a swing to at the end of each day ( i did this recently in Scotland) it only takes a few seconds.

Each to their own though
