Used my 2610 today for the first time and am impressed. Only a few gripes, my main one being accuracy.
Im talking about when its getting close to a turn and counts down from about 500ft. Trouble is on every occasion so far when i have got to a turn its still showing as around 50 ft to go when it is quite obvious im at the turn.
Not a problem when you can see quite obviously which turn to take, but if there are a number of turns all close together then it could be a problem.
I thought it may be down to speed on approach to a junction, but ive tried slowly coming to a junction and actually stopping right in the middle of a junction, and it still showed as 15ft further to go.

Are there any solutions ?

Not really. Accuracy depends on how many satellites you're connected to, and also the maps which are being used.

Still, if you take the wrong turning, it'll only say "turn around ya poof, you going the wrong waay!" :-)

When you are approaching a turn and there other roads in proximity then you need to look at the visual display which will clearly show which of the options is yours. I've been caught out by this before and now I make sure I look at the display and make a mental note e.g my turn is the second right

...I take it you've got the Northern Voice downloaded. On my southern unit it says "turn raaand you fakkin caant";)

Rescue,

I had to read your post a couple of times - did you?

50ft accuracy - and you're disappointed!

Where are you looking 50ft before a turn, or during a 'number of turns'? I know where I look, and it's not at the GPS

Seriously, any GPS is bound to lag behind, and the 2610 has got quite a slow 'redraw' rate. 50ft accuracy, in any case, is pretty good. Most of 'us' tend to ride with the autozoom switched off, and the scale into around 2-300m, with the detail at max. That way, you can see (glance) what's coming up and concentrate on the bends.

Try not to get fixated on the unit as you're riding - not a good habit (although it's tempting). Sometimes, it's worth flipping the view to one of the information screens, to stop yourself riding the map.

Enjoy the 2610 - it's a great bit of kit.

(sorry about the tease :D)

Accuracy

Thanks for the replies. I wish you could change the voice skins on the 2610 !

I wasnt really looking at the unit when using it today, but say if i was after a particular left turn on a road amongst many left turns, ( with no street name signs ), then the distance would need to be accurate has how would i know which one it was. It may be different if it could call out the road name, but it dont.
I took a wrong turn today and it re calculated a new route in about 1 to seconds. So if it knows virtually staright away that i have took a wrong turn, why aint the distance marker accurate ?

I still think its a great bit of kit.

I suppose it depends where you are measuring to. Eg is the measurement to the middle of the road, to the "Stop" line etc. Must admit I very rarely find it an issue. I'm pretty sure that on the old SPIII there was a way of "zooming in" on the next turn screen. Don't know if it can be done on the 2610 - perhaps I'll have a play later.

I remember pulling up once (GPS arrow pointing sttraight ahead obviously). I got off the bike and put it on its centre stand, and just by pulling the bike back about 6" the arrow on the GPS turned round 180 degrees. :eek

Now that's accurate.

You want to buy one of the £500 odd Garmins for it to do that. Trouble is, how often can you see the road name? Surprised you've not been unhappy how it announces motorway turn-offs.

PS try downloading the French / German voices, or even Good Old Boy USA.

Accuracy

No youve mentioned it, yes it is shite how it announces motorway turn offs.

It's announcing where the road splits, even if there's been an exit lane for the last half mile. :thumb

It's just one of those things you need to get used to, and learn how to interprate what it's trying to tell you.
