Chaps,

Does anyone know what current the GPS canbus outlet at the headstock of a GSA/GS will suffer before the brainbox shuts the system down??

Reason is I have an old GPS III+, which is currently wired to the canbus outlet, but have been lucky enough to upgrade to a Zumo 550 which I would like to run in tandem from the same socket.

Probably being a bit of an old woman about it, but I can make up a neat loom to run both units without yards of spare cable hidden under the tank/covers if the outlet will handle the load (which I suspect is small enough to have no effect whatsoever, the load that is).

Currently the 550 is wired direct to the battery which isn't ideal.

Wire it in.

It won't go bang.

If it trips (which would be VERY surprising) it won't hurt.

One question, please: If you now have a 550, why do you want to keep the GPSIII+ wired in, too?

Hi Wapping,

Good question.

The GPSIII+ is an old friend that I've had since 1999 and I'm reluctant to bin it, especially since it is in particularily good nick, until I am entirely familiar with the 550. It's also easier to load lat/long, but doesn't do post codes. I thought I would use it as a general geographic "you are here" whilst the 550 does the road navigation, POI etc.

Actually I'm glad it's you that posted. I bought an 8 gb SD card for the 550 but can't send files to it. There is some talk about formatting it to FAT32 on another forum :augie is this the case or should I be able to find it and download maps/routes/music straight off. I have followed the 550 manual destructions but haven't managed it yet. Some Janet and John instructions would be great if you have the time.

Fluff.

Sd or sdhc?

Your 8gb card will probably be sdhc as opposed to good old sd. Many older computers will only read sd and cannot recognise sdhc.

You can buy an sdhc to USB adaptor for 99p off eBay though. That may be your problem.

Could be, although it's in the 550 and I can see it on my lap top along with the 550 in My Computer:external drives.

The formatting I've dealt with. Easy peasy when you take the trouble to understand the destructions rather than just read them :blast.
