I want to complain to a moderator!!!!
I thought this was a swap for a packet of crisps

Do you want sued? False advertising and all that!!

sort this out NOW :D :D

I use and Etrex Vista for my walking. It is a good, small and light, unit with many good features, including

1) Map screen

2) Electronic Compass

3) Barometer/Altimeter

One problem I would say is that is if you down load maps of national parks from MapSource then the screen is an unhelpful shade of grey that makes everything difficult to read.

Other than that excellent....I paid £300 for mine but they are on ebay for about £150. And the other (less speced models) are a lot cheaper too.

Hi,

I use a Magellen Merdien with a colour screen, its a bit bigger than the e-trex models. The colour screen is very good and the Magellen mapping software shows contour lines, I also use it on the bike with a Touratech mount, very pleased with it. Try this web site (lots of reveiws) www.globalpostioning.co.uk.

cheers

I've got a Garmin Geko 201. I got a friend to fetch it in from the US as it was much cheaper, but you can get them in the UK now for under £100.
Well recommended.

I've heard that absolutely the best portable GPS for walkers is the Garmin 12XL. Apparently its particularly suitable for women and those who feel that their partners GPSmaybe too bulky.

Hope this is useful.

GPS

I carry a Garmin etrex just in case the clag rolls in and i become disorientated, you should be able to find one for about £100. IMHO most people don't use all the fancy functions more money buys you, they just want an 8 fig grid if and when they stuff up.
