GPS mount.

The 1200 has a dedicated GPS power socket. The socket is a funny BMW style one but there's nothing to stop you cutting the wires and fitting a different one. Or if you use a 2610, I think you can buy the official power lead from BMW.

Russ - I too am transferring my Ipaq based satnav from a VFR800 to a R1200GS . I've got all my Ram mounts but it would be great to know your solution for powering the Ipaq . Any smart ideas on getting the sound commands into your helmet via bluetooth ?

I just made up a standard sized 12V socket with an inline fuse, and ran it directly to the battery, in truth i actually made it for the VFR, then stripped it out before selling it and fitted it to the GS. The Navman sleeve i have came with the relevant 12V cable, and the iPaq is supplied with the connector to plug your ipaq into the main or a 12V socket when away from the docking station.

Sound commands, i frankly didn't bother, and bluetooth isn't really all the reliable, i'd suggest that you look at a Starcom1 or Autocom and feed the iPaq sound to the Aux connector

Easiest way IMHO.

All the bits can be bought from Maplins, if you need a list let me know

Gazza solution

Hi Gazza,

I want the exact same solution that you have got.
I realise the aluminium mount comes from Mottorrad (I assume £75 minus 10% for being a sponsor?).

Can you please indicate what else I need in addition to this. I have got a 2610!
Would the normal Garmin motorbike mount fit on the alimuinium frame? This would be I beleive £34 including audio/power cable.

What solution have you used to get audio in your helmet?
I do not have intercom and do not intent to get this so I would be looking at a simple direct connection to 2610 unit?

Many thanks in advance,

THats my effort. Ram Mount with lockable TT mount. I removed the normal lock on the RAM and stuck a nut & Bolt in its place. Should last a bit longer than 10 secs in the petrol station.
Picture taken from riders position.

To utilise both the Garmin mount and the Mottorad mount you will need to fashion a piece of metal ( I used a bit of 3mm ally ) this allows you to bolt the Garmin mount to it then bolt the lot to the Mottorad mount. Sounds fiddly but the whole job only took a leisurley Saturday afternoon with loads of cups of tea. You can see the plate in this picture.

My audio is via an Autocom unit however, GPS warehouse sell a lead which provides power to your unit and also has a 3.5mm ? outlet socket for the GPS audio. Hope this helps. Few more pictures HERE

Gazza

I think that I recognise that ETrex Vista in your piccies. Just like mine:)

It gives great service walking these ere fells.

On the 1200 a 276C with a Motorrad type 2 mount and the Garmin Marine mount is just the job.

Gazza, are those GPO stepladders I spy at the back of your garage ;)

There are low-cost alternatives.

I bought some aluminium pieces from a hardware store and built a cross-member to the handle bar. Cost 3-4 EUR. There I could fit the GPS-mount from my previous 1150GS. I have used it for 16000 km and it works fine.

GPS Mount

Any ideas where I can get one of the "Chris Holland" GPS mounts referred to in this thread?

Thanks
Mike
