GPS mount.

That would be good, thank you....:) I'm contemplating how to fit my Streetpilot III to the new 1200 when it arrives and like you, I've got the RAM mount from my VFR.

I've got a RAM mount for my SPIII on a CBR6. Still think I'm going the Touratech route. I quite like the idea of it being lockable. Also like the damping on the TT mounts. I've already had one display pop on my SPIII which I suspect was down in part to vibration.

I have one of Chris Hollands mounts and fitted the BMW bar mount to it. Works fine but not a cheap option if you need to buy both parts. Have a look HERE [quote/]

Gazza I've gone the same route as you, one question what cable are you using? I've got the BMW one(2 plugs) to fit their cradle should the cradle functions ( zoom etc) work with a 2610 or do they only work with the BMW Navigator?

bar mount

I have found Autocom great for Touratech garmin mounts..........however, I need just the bar end with the knob on so I can change between bikes, anyone got one or know anyone who sells bits:D

Seem to remember seeing something posted by Pan European that the 2610 won't work with the Nav 2 cradle. Not dead sure
but will try and find the link.

I used the u-bolt and the single 3" arm, but i couldn't get it into a suitable position as it would reflect the light over my shoulder making the screen unreadable, so i bought 1x RAM-B-230 Double Ball and 1x RAM-B-201 Double Socket Arm 3" and this gave me much more flexibility.

I stuck some black electrical tape around the bar where i mounted the u-bolt to reduce the risk of marking it badly.

Excellent..! Thanks Russ. Did you just bolt the U bolt directly onto the frame? I'm concerned about marking the finish, given how tight you must have to do it up to make it reasonably secure....probably even more so with a Streetpilot which is a fair bit heavier than a PDA, fitted to it.

just finished editing, see above, but did it up bloody tight and used black electrical tape to (a) protect the bar and (b) let the u-bolt get a decent grip.

Don't know how much effective protection the black tape will offer, but it should be good, i'll worry about it when i sell the GS which won't be anytime soon...its too much fun :D:D

Hope you've got a good extension socket set as the nuts sink quite a way down the thread, and the u-bolt has a tendancy to yaw slightly towards the clocks as you tighten it

Why is the TT solution cheaper?? Isn't it about £23 for the bar, then £70 for a lockable bracket = £93.

The Motorrad option is £90 for the bracket, then you use the plastic cradle which comes with the SPIII.

Or am I missing something??

Possibly that, like me, people will already have the SP III mount for the R1100 or 1150 GS that had the cross-member on the handlebars.

You should note that it's very, very easy to remove an SP III from its lockable mount. Just push the locking barrel towards the front of the bike and the unit comes free. Use the little screw supplied for more security or don't tell anyone that I said this.

I thought that this might be the case. The point of the lockable feature is to stop some scrote nicking it in a petrol station as an addition to his 'sorted' Nova. As long as it would pass the 10 second Chavtest I'm happy:)

Not sure if they do a lockable mount but their standard 1200GS mount is far and away better than the one BM produce

Cheers

Some of it looks remarkably like RAM mount stuff to me...with quite a mark up

There seems to be a billion different ways of mounting the GPS which is a good thing :)

I ordered some stuff from adventuremotorcycling for my old CBR6. YES it is RAM stuff. I later found that there is a massive markup:mad:

s'what i thought!

I know the RAM ball and arm i ordered came in at £20, and the website has something remarkably similar for nearly 70 notes!

chutzpah!

It comes free in way less than 10 seconds. The lock is, at least, a visible deterant; a bit like those hover flies that look like wasps. Generally, however, I do feel comfortable leaving it in place at petrol stations.

I agree. I had a Garmin 3+ with the same Touratech mount fitted on a number of different bikes for four years without a problem. When I bought the 12 I began using a RAM mount and the screen knackered out. I've just bought a Garmin V and ordered the Touratech support bar that bolts onto the handlebar mounting bolts and the Touratech heavy duty mounting bracket.

I do use the bike off-road and on un-made roads so the unit is exposed to alot of vibration.

I leave the GPS unit on the bike 90% of the time, the only time I take it off is if it's going to be in a public car park for any length of time, especially in the UK.

Mine should hopefully be arriving this week sometime (TT are soooo slow) as soon as it does i'll be happy to take whatever pictures you'd like :)

Hi Cardiff

Did the mount ever arrive?

I'm looking at a solution for mounting my 2610. I have the TT lockable mount, but will need an adaptor. I quite like the look of the TT handlebar one, but am concerned that it will block out too much of the instruments & interfere with ignition ? tankbag. so the above instrument mount looks better option, but will it interfere with screen?

Also quite like the look of the "Rainbow" mount which fits next to the mirror. Has anyone fitted this with a TT lockable, does it foul the screen on a lock?

Russ - I too am transferring my Ipaq based satnav from a VFR800 to a R1200GS . I've got all my Ram mounts but it would be great to know your solution for powering the Ipaq . Any smart ideas on getting the sound commands into your helmet via bluetooth ?
