I have an ancient Garmin 2610 which worked very well on a previous GS fitted with a GSA screen. I have a fitting which clamped on to the extra support bar on the screen - perfect! Now my latest 'ordinary' GS has no extra support bar; How do i mount the GPS? I do not want to mount it on the handlebars as this involves wires being moved as the bars are turned.

I fitted the genuine BMW crossbar above the clocks - looks much better than the after market alternatives :)

I have mine attached to the bar above the clocks, using the U bolt and RAM mount. Its slightly offset from centre because of the way that bars designed... But it still works pretty well...

As Sven says, just get the genuine BMW bar. Here's mine:

The genuine article

Many thanks - that is exactly what I have been looking for - but in th wrong catologues:

I bought the Touratech mounting bracket for the Zumo 660 and TT didn't have the bracket in stock. I went for the BMW one and found out after installing it (which is a b%tch) that the diameter on the BMW in 16mm. If you are fitting the RAM mount it won't matter and in fact you can use a RAM mount to mount it over the cockpit (and don't even need for the bar). I opted for the bracket in case the bike fell over with the GPS and it's nice to leave it on the bike when you go for fillups etc. If you need pictures let me know.

In the interest of being different - I have the Alder Enterprises GPS mount and screen brace on which I've mounted my BMW Navigator IV.

It's a nice bit of kit, very well made and provides excellent support for the screen when it's being battered by a headwind.

Maybe it's just me, but I looked at the Alder GPS mount and came to the conclusion that it's similar to a lot of GS accessories - some nicely machined pieces of aluminium that were styled by Stevie Wonder and Ray Charles :P

At least it's functional, unlike most of the stuff in the Touratech catalogue :augie

I like the BMW crossbar and mounting bracket specifically because it looks like original equipment rather than a tacky add-on ;)

Isn't this called 'bling'?

Yes; Sve, I agree with you entirely.....but there are plenty of others who would relish the opportunity to mount this impressive piece of engineering on their dashboard - and why not!

I know mines not a Garmin, but I used the TT Mount and the handlebar brace to mount my V1 Rider.

Oddly... The brace bar I bought directly from BMW only cost £33inc VAT new... the exact same bar from Nippy's is £39 :eek

I think it looks bloody lovely. Functional and butch, like a Borg's toenails.

Decorating your bike

PaulW - we all know that there is no trouble fitting a GPS to a GSA - because the support bar is there already. of course if you need a radar detector as well it complicates the issue - but aren't the two combined now - if you can afford it?

i would hardly classify the alder enterprises item as a tacky add on

No I know, however as I didn't(couldn't) use the support bar on mine, and used the brace instead which goes across the bars (not fitted as standard on the GSA or GS), I posted up about that (plus the previous mention regarding the brace bar)

Anyone used this Alder Enterprise bracket on a BMW bar? I think it will fit the bar, but will if catch the screen?

Mike
