Has anyone fitted a GPS system to a F650? I'm waiting for Vines of Guildford to revert re the fitment of the new Nav II Plus.

Thx for responding Nick. Can I ask what I should pay? where did you source it and the bracket? is it battery powered or wired in? is it water proof (riding around Ireland)? are you happy with it?

Typical price for the Quest is around £350. I got mine in Maplins.

The mount is the original Garmin unit, so is powered. I have hardwired mine to the battery, but I think I will change this to use the accessory socket as I worry about leaving 'live' pin connections when it is parked.

The mount costs around £40 - £50. I got mine from Rainbow Motorcycles.

The original equipment Garmin cradle fits directly onto the RAM-B-202 circular mount - all 4 holes line up perfectly.

I used a RAM-B-201 3inch arm, and a RAM-B-231 ball joint mounted on the handlebars. Another £50 or so.

Seems waterproof. It has been out in the rain, and splashed through enough Fords and Rivers.

Nav II on 650GS

You can mount a NavII straight onto the crossbar without any other fixings, but it means it is fairly low down and can be obscured by a tankbag.
If I were to own one, I would be interested in finding some way to mount it on a RAM arm to bring up into a better location.

Jeremy,

I think its a time to take a long trip from KT?? to TW13 following the A308 and A312 (no little chef or happy eater here ) ...

The guys are right, but a RAM-B-149Z or RAM-B-149ZA setup or with a shim adaptor RAP-319 if attaching to the cross bar. To raise height above the tank bag ?? add a RAM-B-230 and another arm, RAM-B-201 or RAM-B-201-A.

If using the NAV II then a RAM-B-149Z-Q1 or RAM-B-149ZA-Q1 as it has the round base to attach onto the NAV II. Ditto re: raising height above the tank bag.

Do I need a GPS to get from KT2 to TW13? What highlights await me there?

Jeremy,

Yes .. GPSW are almost on your doorstep.

Nick's pictures are fine and show you how to mount the Quest. If you intend to fit elsewhere then its chat time.

Steve, pls give me a call at home 020 8942 8538. I can pop round tomorrow morning.

I visited the GPS Warehouse in Hanworth this morning. I was quoted £403 for the Garmin Quest bike bundle (RAM-B-149Z-Q1 & mount inc cables) and £600 for the Garmin 2610 bike bundle. The Quest came with version 6 software and they said I had to contact Garmin to get the updated version. Is this right?

It was unfortunate that they could not demonstrate either model.

Garmin offer free upgrades for 6 months after first registration.

I bought mine with v6, and got v7 as a freebie.

I have the Quest on my Dakar - as Nick says it comes with version 6 software and you get a free upgrade to v7 from Garmin - can't tell the difference to be honest.

I looked at the 2610, but think the Quest fits better on the 650. IMO the 2610 is just too big.

Quest works well for me - I'm certainly happy with it and am taking it round Norway in July - holds enough maps for all of Scotland, most of England, all of Norway and Sweden, most of Finland and a portion of Denmark as well as a UK speedcamera map overlay - more than enough for a couple of weeks touring!

Highly recommended!:D

Thx Topper, I appreciate the advice. I'll go the Quest route then.

Many thx for all the advice! I bgt my Quest GPS and Ram mount from the GPS Warehouse in Hanworth, Middx. Cost was £355 and it works like a dream! Decided to stick with the battery rather than hard wiring it.

I've also just got a quest and I'm wondering how best to wire it to the bikes electrics, has any one tried wiring it to the same circuit as the headlight, it would seem to make sense. When the ignition is on so is the light....Or am I missing something?
