GPS power socket on 1200GS

For anyone who's interested, here is a shot of the socket for the GPS power on the 1200GS.

I re-did this connection by soldering two bits of a small safety pin onto the wires so they would poke well into the socket. The tinned wire ends were not as easy to poke.

Works well, canbus controlled.

It would be nice of someone could figure out where the plug could be bought?

...is that this was posted over six years ago and I've found (almost) exactly what I wanted with one search.

Having bought a GPS power cable from Littleredrooster which fits this socket, I was after a pic that would give me a better idea of exactly where it's located. Bingo!

Question though - is this socket still provided on later models? Mines a 2010 GSA - and do I need to remove the instrument cluster (with all that that involves ) to access it?

If its a 2010 the socket is to the left of the top of the front shock (as you look from the front toward the back) tied to the loom.

Have a look and you will see it.

Can anyone post a photograph of the plug that fits this socket? Polevolt are fairly local to us and I'm pretty sure they could source the plug.

And here is the link - it syas for the 660 but the plug and wires are the same for all GPS or anything else you want to connect (within reason!)

I wired my sat nav straight to the battery via a relay, piss easy, whats the benefit of doing it the way discussed on here ???

Tne sat nav will turn itself on and off with the ignition and there is no potential drain on the battery which can be a weak spot on the 1200

Thanks for that , however am i right to say I'd only be draining the battery with the ignition switched off if i left the sat nav on its cradle ?

Yes, and up to now, like you, I'd wired mine direct however, if you need to replace the cable it's cheaper to use the NN one than buy the Garmin lead.

Yup. that's what I thought but I've just connected mine up (simples! - but you could do with longer and thinner arms ) and started the engine up, turned on the GPS - Great!!

Turned off the engine - waited for the GPS to power off. And waited. Took the keys out. And waited. Went inside, made a cup of tea... Still on.

That must mean that it ain't canbus controlled then?

Mine used to take over 5 minutes, IIRC. Just enough to turn the engine off, have a faff about with the GPS and look at routes etc.
