Just returned from Spain & Morroco - having wired up my Garmin Quest. All going fine until outskirts of Madrdid. From then on v poor sattellite reception. Contstanly losing reception, even though i would manually reset. I found the unit to be very inconsistent - one day perfect coverage in a given location - accurate to around 15ft . Next morning put unit back on bike - cant find any sattelites - no lock - Is this usual ?. I will contact Garmin but generally felt that a unit that works for around 30 % of the time is pretty pointless. I have tried relocating the unit (mounted on cross bar) . The unit has worked OK in the UK (so i assume the mounting position is OK)

Any suggestions greatly appreciated....thanks

Don't think there is anything wrong with your gps have a look at THIS I experienced the same problems riding around Madrid.

I also had problems with my V in Southern Spain as did another bloke on the forum... Wreford possibly?

Most of the time it was fine but when it lost the signals it took ages to find them again.

It would be nice to know why.

Adam :)

I took my Quest to Bulgaria last week and initially it was hopeless, couldn't locate the correct country !!!

Eventually I went to the "GPS Info" page. All signals were weak. Press "Menu" and select "New Location", then "Use Map" and point to the country you are in.

From then on it worked fine (apart from the limited road maps).

It appears to me that the Quest had trouble making a leap to a completely new location.

This is standard behaviour on all GPS when you relocate them long distances while powered off.

Dare I suggest RTM ?

Both the SP3 and 2610 ask your for help if it can't ascertain your location easily. The better the satellite availability / in view of the GPSR, the less likely you'll have probelms as the GPSR will be able to resolve the conflicts of your position, and ignore the obviously wrong ones eg 2000' under sea level, at an altitude of 150 000' etc.

Did you phone Garmin??? would be interested in hearing their response as your symptons dont sound like it couldn't find where it was as it was working up until Madrid?

Probably going in April, so quite interested.

I have now sent the quest to Garmin and asked them to check it out. The problem was losing satellite lock rather than not being able to get it in the first place. Will post result, still interested in anyone elses experience though...

Having sent the queat back to Garmin for testing, they have replaced the quest under warranty.....I assume that they found a fault with the unit......Good service but no clear explanation....still not complaining.....If it happens again at least I will Know its not my specific unit ....
