Gents (and Ladies),

I'm looking for some software to analyze my GPS routes with. A long time ago I used GARTrip (?), but didn't like that very much....

What I'd like to do is download the tracks, analyze speed, plot the route and other details...

What's the recommended software?

Thanks!

Ooops... have to admit that I've not even tried... :( :doh: :hide:

Better try...

(Ummm does it draw a nice diagram of your speed? Does it draw a nice diagram of your altitude...?)

It does not do exactly what you want but its not far off. Connect your GPS and upload the tracks memory. Then it'll show you the circuit you rode. If you double cick a section it tells you all the info you are wanting.

Suck it and see...

Tried Mapsource now... and the verdict is that Mapsource doesn't really do what I want it in this respect... :-(

I've found this;

anyone tried it...? :confused: There's no screen shots so I can't decide upon that what it does... :rolleyes:

Joker:

What exactly do you want to analyze? The most recent version of MapSource (6.3) offers some pretty comprehensive tools for looking at tracks you have generated - you can look at elevation profiles, speeds, altitudes, the works.

Might be worthwhile to download the NEW user manual for MapSource from Garmin - MapSource User Manual, Revision B, September 2004 Edition - give it a browse, you might find that whatever it is you want to do, you can do it with MapSource, which is free.

converting Tracks to Routes

TheJoker has hit on the exact issue I have.

All I want to do is go for a ride with my 2610 tracking log running, get home convert that to a route so i can save it for a later run if I want to go back over that ride again.

I spoke to Garmin... not interested "why do you want to convert tracks into routes?" "the stre pilot was designed to get you from A - B only"...Thanks Garmin:shoot:

I have also looked at GPSUtil. now this does do it but it is SOOOOO complicated that I decided to go and get pi**ed instead.;

What weree asking for is so simple an idea that you would have thought that Garmin would have stuck it in anyhow.

My 2610 has latest BIOS and Version of base map. Map Source is also latest.

I did get a hint that perhaps Garmin will start to use OS maps in future versions as the guy said at tech support that no OS maps in the current line at the moment.////

PanEuropean,

For example, I'd like to do the same route several times (*cough-nurburgring-cough*) and then load the track-logs into the PC. Open up a software that can
- draw the tracks on the (scanned bitmap map) screen with different colours?
- Animate the track-log, ie. blinking dot where the current position is.
- Display speed etc data for each track in real time (ie. synched with the animation)
- Display a bar-graph of the speed over the course of the track - including a bar to show the current position of the track - of course synched with the animated track log
- Display a bar-graph of the altitude in the same way as the speed.
- Possibly draw the track in 3D, with zooming etc.

I've used GarTrip in the past, but it wasn't very fancy,..

Maybe I should try it again... :rolleyes:
