I bought it for £129.95 last week, reduced from £269.99. I had a Garmin V two years ago, and sold it. This Medion, (it is called a Micromaxx), I bought in Somerfields and it's bloody great! It would need an Aquabox for use on a bike, but it's great for walking in cities and in a car. You can choose from pedestrian, bike, motorcycle, standard car, fast car and lorry in profiles and it will tailor your route accordingly. I know it's not 'cutting edge', and hardened GPS afficionados may look down their noses, but it's bloody cheap and it works! :thumb

Medion GPS

I've got one a Medion PNA100, had it about a year & use it both on the bike and in the car. Used it last year for a trip down to Austria in the car and a 10 day trip on the bike around France. I've found the GPS to be very good, a few minor errors with some of the maps, but nothing too drastic.

Route plotting is easy, bigger SD cards give lots of space for Maps & music. A 512mb card holds all of the UK, strip maps in France, Austria, Germany, & Spain together with 3 - 4 hours of music. On the France trip I ditched all the maps but France and had 10 hours of music on one card. Two cards give me over 20 hours of music.

One the bike I use the standard 'Bike' mount supplied mounted on the handlebar 'brace bar' (R1150GS), using a piece of old inner tube to pad out the gap. The supplied weathercover keeps the rain, that gets past the screen, off. I've done 100's miles in extemely wet weather with no problem, originally used a freezer bag as an extra cover but found it wasn't needed.

The main problem is sun light on the screen rather than rain, but I can live with it. The voice prompts give you plenty of notice of turns etc, so just need a quick look at the screen for visual confirmation.

The MP3 player is good to have on the bike, I know a lot of people don't like music on the bike as they reckon it effects concentration, but I really like it, makes me relax and focus at the same time. Especially good when commuting and on motorways.

I have thought about getting a Quest but to be honest the loss of music whilst I ride is a major downside. I know I could use a separate player, but would lose the voice prompts from the GPS. And yes I know it could all be wired through an Autocom, but they cost more than I can justify to the wife. Better spent on petrol, tyres & ferry crossings

Halfords were selling the PNA100 for £129 a few weeks ago in their 'Sale' so Euro350 at Aldi seems a little steep.

All in all I'd recommend one, at the right price, I've no regrets. :beerjug:

aldi gps

the aldi site does'nt give the model no. :nenau

medion

i found out the model today. its a PNA 250T,
also known as an MD 96800, halfords are asking 550 euro for the PNA 175.

Hey T900, Have you considered getting a cheapo Quest1, and then pick up V8 of City Navigator? eBay may be worth a look, but avoid those China-based auctions..

Make sure that the NavTeq maps supplied are reasonably recent..

Somerfield PDA/GPS

I too bought one of those Somerfield jobbies for £129. Fantastic bit of kit for the money. Bought it mainly for use in the car, but I've tried it briefly on the bike and it works OK. I just slipped it in the map pocket on my tank bag and listened to the voice prompts via autocom. It even fades down mp3s when the voice prompts cut in.

I've now worked out that I can also use it to keep the kids quiet on long car journeys by playing DVDs converted to DivX format ...... :clap

As said before by no means cutting edge, but a versitile bit of kit that gets the job done :thumb
