GPX - A Draft Plan - and trip report - Northern Vosges, Southern Vosges and Black Forest

Am at my favourite lunch stop in the Black Forest. I absolutely love this place. Amazing food - huge chunks of perfectly cooked beef and pork with very fresh, hot fries. Great beer and obviously, home made Schwarzwalder Kirschtorte!

AHH, Ebony Gateaux. Can't say I've tried it.

😬

Almost. Charcoal Copse Gateau. It is very agreeable..

Glad you got home okay. I’ve a long run tomorrow. A cross country, no-motorway run from Colmar to Saint-Quentin. A fair schlep. 7 hours I reckon as I’m crossing the Vosges again.

I love that area and I'm sure I have exact copies of some of the photos!

Sounds nice Gateaux Sneldog. 😉. Yea, home ok ta but now it's caught up with me as I haven't done mileage like this since a year ago.
For a change, we thought we'd give it a try from Verviers to Hook of Holland using no motorways as far as we dare timewise. What a pleasant change . Nice gentle stress free riding across rolling country through villages and made surprisingly good time. Eventually and inevitably we got sucked onto motorways north of Antwerp but it wasn't the boring slog we usually have to endure.

Harwich ferry to Hook of Holland? Yes, we'd definitely use it again. Ok, it's a 100 miles further than Hull but the whole layout is much better than Hull. Plenty of facilities/food/refreshments/fuel, right outside the entrance compared to the wastelands surrounding Hull. The crossing is shorter so less time to kill. No cabaret etc. Facilities on the ferry weren't tired and rundown like Hull and disembarking at 06.30 meant it was quiet roads to escape the area. Oh and it was a lot lot cheaper than Hull. The only downside was the horrible A14 road to and from Harwich.... plus the smell. I've mentioned the smell haven't I? The smell of rotting/fermenting cabbage? Too many fekkin humans down south, that's what it is.
Have a good one back to St. Quentin-On-Sea

👍

The champagne region was nice on the eastern seaboard of France this afternoon. 🙂 A really good lunch in Marseilles too.

Am now having a couple of beers, overlooking an sunlit, fragrant, Alpine meadow. Very nice.

Not too early a start tomorrow, about two hours riding for an 1120 train on Le Tunnel Sous La Méditerranée.

Then onwards to home, assuming I can remember the way. 🤷🏼‍♂️🤨🤪
