GPX - Ardeche

The Ardeche and its gorges are always a popular destination. The August 2026 edition of Tourenfahrer magazine had an article on the area, along with four suggested rides, centred on the town of Le Cheylard. I have cut all four into GPX file tracks, colouring each track to match the colours in the article.

Whilst by no means compulsory, Le Cheylard might well make a decent enough base for exploring tge region:

Excellent roads in that area. Fraction of the traffic you find in French/Italian Alps.

Yes. I've done some of those routes a few times and it's always an excellent experience. I always also appreciated that there is less people around and it's the perfect spot for a relaxed long weekend out.

Bods with a MyRoute Routeplanner account, can easily convert a track (such as those above) into a routes. The ability is there in the drop down box option. However, please note:

1. Conversion places multiple shaping points on the route. Sometimes these are nor awfully well placed and need to be moved.

2. Conversion from a track to a route is not always perfect. If for instance whoever created the track made a mistake, their mistake is carried through into the route. Similarly, if they use a road that is not shown on your map, the route created might well do very odd things.

In short, check everything and then check again.

Indeed. The Cévennes area to the south west is somewhat ‘wild country’ and worth a look, too. Fuel stations can be few on the ground, always start the day with a full tank and don’t pass up the chance to refill.

Or hop eastwards into Provencence proper. That said, if you think it was too hot in the UK this summer, take your dry ice cooled undercrackers for Provence in August.
